Would you wanna play from CD PC games as with consoles.

Would you play most of your games streamed from the CD or would you install.

I mean why do we need to install the game, you still need the damn CD to play. You could say offcourse that by installing you do not need to switch Cd's, but still if that saves 3 gb on my hd, then I'm willing to accept it, and with more games on DVD thats not a problem. I mean if I still need the damn DVD/CD then why should a wast my hd. You could just stream it as for consoles. And then you can also say, well just crack it, so what you have a legal copy, it may be illigal but the yare going to leave you alone. Well that works for sp games but for mp I still need my CD. and the saving would offcourse be done on teh HD.

Now people making a thread about if the devs should include this as an option is pointless, cause even if you do not agree with this and want to install, you wouldn't mind having the option to play from CD.

The poll is about weather you would play this way most of the time if it was possible to just play from CD with no need for installing, or not.
yes is if you would
No is offocurse if you would just install.
(sry that I messed up with the poll question a little)

Isn't loading times a lot faster when the files are on your hard drive as opposed to a cd?

edit: lol, your poll is really confusing. Your asking if we'd choose one method or another. choices = yes or no.

I'd rather download games straight to HD, or whatever we'l be using in the future.

But at the moment playing from CD would be nice, if it could run at the same speed. Though I've got most of my game CD's as Iso's on the computer now...sooo.

nope
i'd rather get image from the CD then throw it away

"Poll: Would you play most of your games streamed from the CD or would you install."

Lol, I don't see how that qualifies for a yes or no answer.

it should be rephrased as "WOULD YOU PLAY PC GAMES STRAIGHT OFF THE CD?"
An 'or' question with a yes or no poll is rather confusing.

No, look at the size of a regular hard drive. Mine is 30gb which is considered small now a days but it's a struggle to fill it up. It doesn't take that long to install and once it's in there is faster loading times and the possibility of getting a no cd patch :D

oh man, heh, a struggle to fill up a 30 gb? I'd have it full just with my music library alone.

People no need to remind me that I messed up the poll question, I allready aplogized beforehand.

Yeah but I'd rather have my 3/4 gb of space, then a little faster loading times, besides the game can be streamed so it has harly any loadingtimes, as for sp games I udnerstand you can use a crack, but that is illegal, I mean on this iste you can't even ask for one, so that is not a really valid option. but for multiplayer you do need a CD a lot of the times, valve is the only one who came with a good solution IMO.

using a no cd crack for a single player game is not illegal if you own the game.

Ooh ok, I thought it was but that they left you alone if you had the original. But then why is it not allowed on this site to aks for a NoCD crack. Why can't I get one from gamespot or gamespy. Besides different countries have different laws.

Well, take my comment with a grain of salt, cause I'm no legal expert. I guess I just don't really see a difference in cracking a game so you don't have to use a cd as opposed to other tweaks and mods for games. Your just modifying software you payed for to suit your needs. It's just in how you use them I guess. Because the majority of the time, a no cd crack is used to crack a pirated copy. Your not allowed to post em here because they promote pirating.

Theres a big difference between Harddrive speed and CD speed. Just imagine playing HL2 with all those load times streaming from a CD. :X

No but you could continously stream, like a lot of console titles do.
Besides the amount of loadingtimes in hl2 was rediculus, common. Besides didn't they say in that IGN article about hl2 on the xbox, valve had a good streaming technology, that worked very well. Heh maybe I'm wrong, I'm gonna reread the article.

Hey but why are there people who posted but not yet voted, common people please do vote.

Also, if it was a game such as GTA3 then I wouldn't be able to modify the car's handling etc. =p
Changing game file settings, downloading updates, changing skins and all would be a little hard. Some mods wouldn't work.

This is afterall, on the PC and not a console.

Elaborate on the carhandling thing and the settings, cause those things can be changed on a console, the changes are simply logged in teh save. the other points are good though, but there would be ways of getting around them i reckon.

Yes there would probably be ways around them, but I don't see how they'd be any easier than just installing the game on your HD and being done with it. You just flat out have nowhere near the freedom of being able to customize and do what you want with the files when they're stuck on a cd vs. installing them on a drive. I guess I really don't see this as a problem, especially with the size of hard drives now days. If anything I could see future consoles moving closer and closer towards being able to install games like a pc can rather than the other way around for all the same reasons (i.e. speed, being able to provide constant updates and mods/customizability). It's pretty obvious that over the years consoles have become and still are becoming more and more like pcs.

But the next gen games will be a very huge size probably on avrage 4gb+, and if is simply possible to play from CD, and if you have mods or updates which are put on your HD then that is simply checked for before thh game starts, I don't think it's that much of trouble. Besides if you don't install the game, there is more room for mods. + scanning and defragmenting your PC doesn't take so long if you HD is not full of games.
To me we pc gamers have got the worst of both worlds, not only do we have to install, we also have to have the CD in the PC. I mean I like the idea that a lot of games are on your hd only if that meas you do not have to carry the CD's. Besides I think console games will move to simply streaming a lot so that there are almost no loadingtimes, PC will probably not. :(

Yeah, the next gen games will be bigger, but so will next gen hard drives. And no, I don't think distant future console games will be moving more towards streaming. Streamings a neat idea and all, and it's great for current console setups but it still takes up resources that could be better utilized if files were accessed from the hard drive. The next gen-consoles are moving towards incorporating and utilizing hard drives so if anything they'll probably be moving towards installable console games. I understand you like to save HD space and all. But the benefits of having games installed on a hard drive are much greater than the negative of simply taking up space.

Why not streaming it from the HD like you do from the CD?..........

I've got a 80 gig harddrive... 23.5gigs free...

With GTA3 and VC on the PC I can modify the handle.cfg file and change the car properties. I can make it so they go 10000MPH, weigh 10000 pounds, make accelerate 100, and make it so it respawns me to closest land if i go off into the water. Oh, also make me so i don't take ramming dmg.

I do that to all my taxis. I call em super cabs. =p
I've done some wicked jumps and also gone from one end of the map to the other.

Hmm maybe I should get that game out again and have a short break from wow.

Installing makes games run faster, better, smoother. So thats my choce.
