The Mullinator said:The resources related to developing, releasing, and maintaining a new continent though are probably quite different from the resources required to maintain server stability. Heck a new continent could make some servers more stable since it would help spread people out.
Yea, there was already a thread detailing how much money Blizzard is making, Its certainly foolish to think they don't have expansions, etc. in the works.
They have people that maintain the servers, people that answer phones, people that operate the website, people that fix bugs, people that work on new content, and of course they have people working on expansions and new versions of the game.
EDIT: I think they were smart not to deny or admit they are working on an expansion.
If they Admit they are, many people will not buy the current release of WoW, instead they may wait untill the newer version is released so they don't waste thier money.
If they Admit they are not working on an expansion, many people will revolt.
Games like this have to expand and periodicaly release new things, or people will eventually grow tired of what there is to offer and stop paying a montly fee to pay. An expansion refreshes everything to make it seem new again.
EDIT 2: One thing I hope is that they don't do what EQ Frontiers expansion did for EQ on Playstation 2
The environment graphics were vastly improved, the new music and fog effects were awesome, the new character point improvement system rocked, but maybe it was the limitations of the PS2, but they changed all the character models, and thier animation, and it didn't feel right anymore. The animation was good, but didn't feel like my guy was really hitting someone with a sword, instead it looked wierd, and they changed the way every item looked, so robes looked gay, also, while the character models looked better, like I said it was just wierd for them to make my guy who I had got to level 50 with look totally different.
I quit after a month of the expansion release.
In short it felt unfamiliar, and I kept missing the old things. Hopefully a WoW expansion will only make the game even better without any downside.
