wow, lotsa content servers

Could this mean hl2 might afterall be released this year? since at one time there were rumors about HL2 being delayed because of Steam?

I'd think they're preparing to launch CZ.. that'll be the stress test, following CZ, the rest of the bink videos, then finally HL2, so maybe we'll see HL2 going gold sometime in December

That's what im hoping. Wow total thread spam by me... im bad.. ill be gone from this thread now... :p

I'm hoping for a stress test with bink vids this wensday and tehn teh release of cs cz on the 14th

It's for CS: CZ. BTW, when was CS:CZ releaed date?

good news it seems like :)

hopefully they start with the vids real soon and then CZ and if we are lucky, we might just see HL2 before the end of the year :)

The CZ release and the Steam test may be why they hasnt been any HL2 info produced.

This is good that we get more content servers, now we won't worry about not being able to do shit for a week or 2 after CZ is released. At least we can tell VALVe is actually doing things behind the scenes. I just hope they release info on what soon :)

...that doesn't seem to make a whole lotta' sense.

I'm surprised that they didn't supply their own content servers earlier. This would have made things much easier on the community.

well, maybe Valve have been very busy trying to get Steam ready? hence no time for HL2 and not much time to talk about it either.. im ready to believe that Steam needed and still does need lots of work and thats where Valve's been... busy readying it so a HL2 release will be as smooth as possible..

2700mbps bandwidth...

Is that enough? How much would you say they need?

peer 2 peer..

2700mbps probably wouldn't be enough for the first few days of HL2, but it'd be fine thereafter

Thankfully, they're gonna do something called preloading. You buy the game a week or so in advance, and you get a head-start on the download, then when the game comes out the probably encrypted content you've downloaded is unlocked and lets you play, which spreads the load on the servers.

Not to mention that a very large proportion of people are going to buy HL2 in the shops, so the load on the Steam content servers will only be downloaders.

With any luck, Steam won't go into horrible hideous meltdown.

Also, hopefully they'll put P2P into Steam, it's definately on their timetable for Steam.

It may be enough for now, but they may need more when Steam becomes more popular. Like when Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike Condition Zero, Team Fortress 2, ETC along with perhaps media for upcoming Valve products. They may need to get even more Bandwith. Although taht should be plenty for right now.
