"Because no translators were provided, the man's son was left with no choice but to try to interpret the consent form himself, and it was sadly misinterpreted," said Honda, who represents a district in California with one of the largest Asian populations.

The Japanese-American lawmaker cited another case, of a Lao woman suffering from tuberculosis who was "imprisoned for not taking her medications.

So I'll start of eh: Guess he failed to put his best foot forward.. :|

Honestly, my first thought?

-- Ma'am please, I am an expert on the human body.

Isn't it kind of a REQUIREMENT to know basic English to even get citizenship for the US? His own fault, tbh.

That's horrible :(

All my doctor's forms etc come in EVERY LANGUAGE EVER.

...Punjabi comes before English. No joke.

So did he get like a piece of paper saying:

Which leg do you want amputated?

[ ] Reft
[ ] Light

?

Also, would they not have examined it themselves beforehand? When would a doctor ever take their patient's word over their own findings, especially if that word was in an entirely different language?

My initial conclusion stands.

I was wondering this myself. I mean, surely, if I were to go to my local hospital and say "I need my left leg amputated", they'd check out why?

Stay "focused" dammnit! The guy really wanted:

Which leg do you want amputated?

[*] Reft
[*] Light

Both legs amputated!

...and be sure to fill in the bubble's completely, or we'll leave you with a pair gangrenous, festering lumps of flesh for a set of legs. :p

Worst. hospital. ever.
No. VA hospitals are the worst ever.

Military doctors are dumb as hell. They didn't even know what a breech baby was when my mother was in labor with my oldest sister at a VA clinic in Long Beach CA.

No. Royal London hospital is the worst. Someone who works there said last year they had callouts every other day for rat infestation.

I went there about 4 months ago to A&E (ER) and there were tiles hanging off the walls, pieces of cannula with blood on them laying on the floor, the guy who did my blood test told me to shut up (I was crying) while he did it, he was covered in tattoos, no gloves on etc.

ROYAL LONDON HOSPITAL. ROYAL LONDON. ROYAL.

I discharged myself and went home... But I ended up in (a different) hospital the next week.

Maybe they should learn to speak other languages in the US. >.>

But this is the US, and the goveernment i'm sure wouldn't do that because of people's rights.

Wow. "Shut up."

Umm, can't you just point at the leg you want amputated?

You would also think they would have been the ones to issue the statement that he needs an amputation. But we dont know the whole story since the article is actually just about people not knowing english in the US, not about the amputation. It could be that both legs were ****ed up from something and both could have used amputation, but the guy only consented to one of them (the one he didnt want lol). Who knows.

Also lol at London Royal Hospital. Are you sure that you didnt just enter a fake hospital using their name?

If I were him, I would walk right up to the doctor and kick him.

Try to visualize that.

Can't he like, show on himself what legs he needs cut?
I mean wtf all the doctors and the patient are complete retards or what?
