we watched a video in human development where they put black and white children in front of black and white dolls and then asked the kids questions. The saddest one I saw was this one black girl (she was probably 5) was asked to pick up the "pretty" doll, and she grabbed the white dolls. Then she was asked to pick up the "ugly" doll and she picked up the black doll. Then she was asked to pick up the doll that looked most like her, and she picked up the black doll again.

There's a cosmetic operation which stretches the eyelid out and achieves a very similar effect to the one in this vid. It's extremely common in Japan and it's most likely that this girl was trying to achieve something along the same lines. Most Japanese pop idols have it, or something similar done to their face. Another common one is eye inflation - actually having stuff pumped into your eye to make it visibly bigger, so that you end up looking like a retarded anime character. A good example is the ridiculously bug eyed Ayumi Hamasaki:

She's almost certainly had the first type of surgery that I mentioned, too.

Yeah, it was the same deal in China. In all the advertisments for clothes etc. there were white people. The white look seems to be the ideal for a lot of Asians.
