My mouse is acting strange lately - it turned itself off a few times, and today 30 minutes ago it started doing so every few minutes or sometimes seconds

Right now it's fine, but if I work with it for a while it pauses sometimes, resumes working and then after sometime turns off completely. I thought that maybe it's a problem with the cable, started wiggling it around and saw the laser blink a few times, but never managed to get it into a position when it would constantly work. On the other hand, I don't know how could it be a problem with the cable, while the mouse ALWAYS resumes working after I plug it out and then back in. It's as if it was losing the USB connection, though I have tried other USB ports as well and same thing.

BTW, when I start up BF2142, it stops working sooner, wtf?

Are you using a Razor?

My mouse decided not to turn itself on sometimes when I booted-up which meant I would have to restart the computer again.

It does the same with my new PC, so I can only presume that my problem must be the mouse.

could either be a cable problem (i had that with the first MS intelli mouse explorer) or (and the second post, too) like it's sucking up too much power at boot time or at run time and doesn't turn on. try not to use keyboard usb hubs or something like that.

for the boot time thing, if your mouse does that, either get a usb hub with it's own power supply, or trash the mouse.

Nah it's a Creative Mouse Optical 3000.

You had to restart your PC again? What are you plugging it into - PS/2? Cause you can plug a device out of the USB then plug it back in without restarting the PC.

Haha. That is what I was about to say.

I look forward to seeing you in BF2142 today.

Nope. I'm using USB :P

I cba to move the computer to replug it back in when I can fix it simply by restarting...

Anyway, I'll set-up my USB hub later which has it's own power-supply. Yay.

Sometimes I get some weird spots on my desk where my cursor won't move at all. It's usually when I have other objects around like the TV on and other things that can mess with the signal.

EDIT: n/m I thought you had a cordless. GET WITH THE TIMES.

Interesting. I had pretty much the same problem with my mouse not too long ago. When I started CS, it stopped working sooner. Yes, wtf?!?!?

I was ready to bite the bullet and spend $50 on a new mouse, but then I found this site: http://www.snark.com/~woody/writing/fix-intellimouse/

I know that's not the mouse you have, but the idea is to open the mouse, unkink the wire inside, and then feed more of the wire inside the mouse.

Try it. That's how I fixed my mouse.

don't restart the whole PC,just pull out the mouse plug and plug it back in

AEnema I had the same problem as this guy and doing what you propose did not solve my problem. I'd also imagine he already thought of that?!?!

No, thanks, I like the power supply coming from the PC, instead of having to buy and replace batteries :)

Maybe I'll try that tip posted by zleppelin, thanks. Right now the mouse is doing fine cause I tried a 3rd USB port. Two USB ports failing at the same time - weird. /scratches head. I bet that if I plug something else in them later they will work. : P We'll see.

WTF?!

It just died on the 3rd USB, the one it was doing well on. I replugged it, I hope it won't die again in a few minutes.

Why is this happening?

Sounds like it might be a problem with the plug itself, some sort of disconnect inside. Maybe when you push it in, it temporarily reconnects the power to the mouse, but then as gravity pulls on the cord, it disconnects after time.

Long story short, a new mouse is probably in order :P

i had this problem before with my old ms mouse, nothing wrong with the mouse was just crappy chipset drivers. worked fine after i updated them

my middle mouse button click just stopped working on my razer viper :(

I told you how to fix your problem. it's a shame you did not listen to my good advice.
