Do spec ops show up on commander scans? I always thought they didnt, but they do in retail...wtf

How do commanders get points?

Commanders get points at the end of the round and is somehow calculated by how the rest of the team does. Also, the Spec Ops don't get shown on sattelite scans but I'm not sure if they appear with the UAV. I remeber there was this one round where we had all the flags captured and there was only one guy alive from the other team, and well, the smart thing to do was a sattelite scan but he didn't show up as it went. So we all defended flags and we eventually found the guy.

Are you sure they don't show up? I just tried it and they do :P

that sucks. i figured they didn't when i was the only person in the opposing team's base taking out their uav and i got art'd. so much for covert action.

... and why do snipers show up? That confuses me more than the Spec Ops guys being detected. Aren't they (snipers) supposed to be masters of camo and just generally not being discovered?

Maybe you have to be a certain rank, or unlock stuff.

Well yes but they usually spend about 2 days getting into position. The Snipers in BF2 are mainly for infantry support.

Yeah, well in real life you can't just shock someone with a defibrillator to bring them back to life and completely heal all of their fatal bullet wounds... you can't pull your parachute out at an altitude of 10 feet... you can't dive from a mile above the water and survive (I've done that in BF2)... blood comes out instead of a puff of smoke/dust when you get shot... there's no magical "scan" button a commander can press to find out where every enemy soldier is at any moment... supplies are dropped from planes, not thin air... a vehicle submerged in water does not explode... you can't turn friendly fire off and do stunts by strapping C4 onto your car... and many other crazy/magical things.

Obviously, since games only last an hour or so... they're not going to force you to trek off into the wilderness for two days to find a sniper spot. If they wanted everything to be realistic they would make conflicts last weeks or more, the levels would be larger, the sniper rifles would usually disable (if not kill) someone in one shot, you would have to airlift critically wounded people to a nearby MASH (do they still use that term?) unit for emergency medical care, etc...

What's the point of wearing a ghillie suit and finding a nice, remote sniping spot if the commander can just do a quick scan and spot you so that everyone knows where you are? Then, once you've been spotted you have to do a lot of running around to find another spot. In the mean time, you have nothing but a pistol and some grenades to defend yourself until you find a new hiding place, which may be realistic... but actual snipers aren't forced to go on the run or placed in emergency situations as much as BF2 snipers. The least they could do is make the people actually have to find us manually and use the "spotted" button. It would make the life of a sniper significantly less frustrating.

Spec ops do show up, I just tried it again.

I've been saying that for weeks, finally someone is listening, they show up on scan and UAV, and that good, otherwise they would be to good.

And snipers arte allredy to hard to detect visually so I'm all for that it stays the same, they should show up on UAV and satelite.

IMO, it would make clan matches hell if there were spec ops that didn't show up.
