X-bit review on new 3800+ Venice core!

Awesome; 2.88ghz, that's f'kin sweet.

Bleh, that makes my new 3500+ Newcastle feel crappy. And I just bought it. :(

looks very impressive! should be really interesting to see results when AMD bring out the big guns, the 4200+ and the FX-57!

I'm waiting for that FX-57 myself.... or the 4200+... have a Barton 2800+ now (OCd to 3000+), and need the FX-57 or 4200+ to drop down to about $300-400 before I buy - I figure a year tops - a lot is happening in CPU, VPU, memory and HDD technologies this year!

That's awesome. Seeing all good news from AMD again and again. Now if only they push forward their dual core launch for desktops. =p
When dual core has been out for the desktop for awhile, that's when I'm thinking about switching boards/cpus.

At what temperatures do the Venice cores run at under full load and at idle?

/frowns at his fx-53

i hate ever-evolving hardware :(

I will have to switch the M/B too when I do the CPU. Unfortuneately, I think I will have to go the PCI-E route for the video card... have a 9800XT right now and want to get the life out of it. And who knows about memory when I get the new M/B... might have to get new memory too! Quasi expensive... but once it is all together, will be well worth it!

how much are the new 38800+ venices going to be going for?

About the same as the Winchester equivalents.

Personally, there's more chance of getting a better chip if you spend the same amount of money on some 3000+'s or 3200+'s, keep the best clocker, and sell the rest.

(I've had 5 A64's. The worst 2 were 3500's, cloesly follwed by 2 3200's - the best turned ut to be an old 3000+ :))

If you're lucky, you may end up with 3 excellent chips - and be able to sell some of them on for more than you paid for them.
