X3 Terran Conflict anyone? That's a sure buy for me. Judging from the videos (and the promises), the game mechanics have been polished and the true gem hidden in the X series might finally come to light. And the price is ridiculous.

I tried the demo, quit after exacly 3 minutes and 13 seconds. Controls were impossible, when i play a game id like to actually be able to have a user interface and navigate properly.

There's a playable demo for Terran Conflict? Where did you find it? Not in the official Egosoft site.

What's the interface like? Are the windows resizable etc? If not, I won't be buying again. I thought they had fixed it with X3, but somehow it was worse than X2's.

They just need Eve Online's UI and they'll have the perfect game...

Since I loved both X2 and X3, this is obviously a must-buy for me :)

I am about to start playing the whole series. Just a question: what's your favourite game controller for this kind of games? Mouse alone is not enough (though Egosoft claims that Terran Conflict can be played by mouse only). Do you suggest joystick or gamepad?

I absolutely love the X series and played it more than any other game series I'd imagine. Of course I don't have a working PC and I might cry myself to sleep if I have to miss out on this one.

I heard a long time ago there were rumors in the X3 community that they were going to make a console game, anyone hear any word of that? All I have left is a console.

To Paolo...
I used a microsoft sidewinder and it was perfect. I'm sure there are many other good ones out there, but that one was really cheap. I hated playing X games with only a mouse. Didn't feel like a pilot.

I used to use my Saitek X52 HOTAS for X3, but I sold it and am now getting along just fine with a keyboard+mouse.:p

Fantastic game, if it were turned into an MMO it'd be what EVE Online should have been.

I really want to know how this turns out. If any of you get it, please let me know. It's supposed to be released in 6 days.

I want to know how it rates compared to X3: Reunion, and what has changed.

I will let you know.

EDIT: once again, in my country retail is cheaper than Steam version. Sorry Steam, nothing personal ;)

Awww :(

Oh well. I'll find reviews as they come out.

I am about to buy X3:TC retail version. About DRM, I found this on a forum:

The DVD copy of the game has TAGES physical, media required copy-protection.

The Steam version uses a derivative of TAGES which requires online activations, limited to 5 with the usual promises of "you can get more activations" and "we will shut off DRM after a time". While I personally feel using this type of DRM is nei-indefensible I will say that Egosoft does have a track record of removing CP and DRM after the retail run of a product, typically 1 years time.

Can someone confirm this? If this is true, we can say that Steam is not a DRM-free platform anymore.

Confirmed from Egosot FAQ:

X3:Terran Conflict uses the so called "TAGES" system for disk as well as for online versions.
As was the case for all X games, we will release a version without copy protection at a later point.
Important: The DVD version does not require online activation!

I assume that for requiring online activation on Steam they intend a TAGES related thing other than the normal Steam authentication method (limited installations?). Bad, bad thing. If this behaviour is confirmed, publishers are pushing Steam downhill, because retail version is cheaper too.

Why the hell are they doing this shit?
They don't trust Steam enough to just sell their game through it with no strings attached? :|

When it comes to DRM and non-Valve software, Steam is becoming more and more like other digital distribution platforms. When it comes to business and money, publishers don't care too much about trust or reputation.

X3: Terran Conflict Rolling Demo available for download.

It looks great, as ever with this series. Too bad Egosoft never seems to get the handling right. They say they've improved it yet again, so I hope there will be a playable demo to test that. Also, again planets don't seem orbitable which is too bad. And I bet the interface is still unintuitive and hard to navigate. This could be such a great series, if some proper money was pumped into it.

I'm going to wait until they hammer out all the performance problems and issues that I've been reading about on the forums. That when you play for a while, things become unbelievably choppy and rather unplayable, even if you're in an empty sector. Some strange things happening that hopefully they can resolve before I buy it.

Patch 1.3 is on its way.

Biggest flaw with X3 was zero multiplayer, pity cos it still looks gorgeous.
