Ok, before I start this isn't one of those nvidia x ati topics, I gave up on buying the 9800 pro a while ago, I still have my crappy 5600... I get maximum of 1 (YES ONE) FPS on 3dmark05 (I know you cant rely on this program to measure your pc performace completely but comeon!! 1 fps???) Now, I realized I need a X800, but now, my question is: which model??? is there too much difference between the X800 pro and the XT PE?? or is it like the 9800 pro to the XT, that has almost no difference?? I'll probably get one for christmas this year, which model of the X800 is the most valuable I mean not for HL2 only, cuz there are other games out there... I mean in general.

Thx

There is a pretty decent difference between the X800 Pro and XT (PE) models but it is also a full 100$ extra and well above what most people need for performance.

The X800 Pro is easy to find and is a great card. If you wish, spend the extra 50$ and grab the X800XT or 100$ for the X800XT PE. The hard part is finding them.

well I figured out I don't really need excessive (spelling?) perfomance, I just want to run a modern game like Far Cry or HL2 with max settings at at least 1024x768 (dont need AA or AF) with decent framerates, like around 60, I guess the X800 pro can do that right?

Thx again in advance!

meh nvidia # 1 (Sorry i had to say it )
anyways i would get x800xt and clock it to x800xt P.E. :)

go get a x800 pro if u want to run those games on high that should be good enought and if you go to outpost.com they have one for 329.99 dollars

If your not hardcore on graphics, just get the X800 Pro, but if you want a little more 'umph' then get the X800XT, and super 'umph' get the X800XT PE, but as Asus said, hard part is finding those last two.

its not hard to find the x800xt. when i bought mine from xtremegear a week ago they had 60 in stock. and that was just one store. check pricewatch. and as you can see it overclocks to PE speeds and beyond.

if you aren't going to get an x800xt might as well get a 6800gt, it soundly defeats the x800pro

i am very cool with my 9600XT

your happy with your 9600XT o_O i fricken hate mine. ppl say i should be running doom3 just fine on 1024x768 but i had to run mine on 800x600 and it still ran like crap. when i fought the gaurdian i had to turn the resolution all the way down, the detail and everything off! and i still hardly beat him cuz my fps!!! hopefully this christmas i will also be moving up to the x800xt :naughty:

i cant play CS:S cuz my fps sucks so bad, how does yours run ATI4EVER? i dont understand how ppl think its a good card, something much be wrong with mine :(

the x800xt is just great. go for it if you can afford it. I have no complaints..

I dont think I'm going for anything below the X800, I'll probably get the pro model, cuz I live in Brazil and its all damn expensive cuz of importing taxes and things like that, the price is something like 600 bucks... the 9800pro is 300 bucks around here, but I'm not going for it cuz its already almost 2 years old, I know its a good card but I want to buy something and then not buy anything else for a year or more, cuz my pc is good enough for a couple more years I think, now, whats the matching X800pro model for the Geforce 6800?? is it any better? I mean not only for HL2 but for future games in general, is it better the X800pro or the matching 6800??

You can find some 9800 pro xt for very good prices on E-Bay.

How old is the 9800 pro xt 256 mb ?

ok now, I've read some reviews of both the 6800 and the X800, I came to the conclusion that the 6800GT is perfect for me (I'm not an Nvidia or ATI fan believe me, I wanted to burn the whole Nvidia building after I bought my 5600...), I mean, it has SM 3.0 and all that, I know we're not using it so much but next year probably all games will have SM 3.0 support, the X800 doesn't have that... and they are almost the same price!!!

I saw the GT and it is just amazing, I don't want ultra galactic movie-like ultra-realistic (well some of it I want hehe) graphics but only decent graphics on the latest games at confortable FPS and reasonable resolutions, the 6800GT is good enough for me I think.

OR...you could just buy an X800 Pro VIVO and flash it to an X800 XT or even X800 XT PE.

that's not a bad suggestion either..

I'm really not comfortable with o/c, i don't know, it just doesn't feel right, its like I'm afraid to do it cuz something will go wrong or something, I don't wanna lose any money if I fry some part of my pc...

To flash the pro vivo to an xt vivo you would (to make it a "real" xt :) ) manually (with your HL crowbar) unlock the 4 pipelines.

Regarding the 3Dmark thingy - You cant expect more from a more or less crappy DX9 card running next gen real time rendering tech :p
