X900 XT info

And if I had to guess, it would be a PCI-Express card.

Oh man, hardware is getting seriously, seriously ****ing fast now. And the thought that it could keep increasing exponentially... Downside is upgrades may need to become a lot more frequent.

ATI will continue with AGP too for quite awhile, right? Since not many has PCI-E now.

Edit: According to them, the x900 series will be released in January. I might sell my X800 XT PE and get that one then :)

I think 560 mhz is a bit absurb concidering they are having troubles getting 520 right now. Howevor 600 mhz of memory seems like it possible. I think ati is going to need a dual slot cooler for this card howevor because it sounds like its going to need it.

I also dont think that we need 512mb of memory right now. I think both companies should save that until the next generation of cards. It would raise the price too much, and it just not needed.

I cant read it nor do I want to run it through googles languages but it looks like its coming out in january. Im sure ATI has already started producing these chips so that they will be ready but my question is why bother. I understand if you where realeasing this card mid novermber or eary december but not as late as january. The new cards will be just 3-4 months away. And I think now that half life has been released pc gaming is going to go into a slump for the next 3 or 4 years. The new consoles will be released soon and the current generation of cards will be more then enough to get everyone through untill longhorn is released. The earliest I can see most people uprgrading that jumped on the hardware bandwagon in the last 2 years is going to be 2006 when longhorn is released.

Troubles with 520 mhz core? Where did you read that? Some XTs can go above 600 mhz with stock cooling.

Doom 3 uses 512 mb so nothing is wrong to have 512 mb card ;)

I remember reading it on another forum somewhere. Sorry but I forgot the name but they were joking around that the x800 xt was named the press edition or phantom edition and ATI was having troubles releasing them with 520 core so they decided to release a regular version with only 500 core.

Doom 3 may support 512 of memory but you dont really see any difference in visuals. I dont think the x800 xt is fast enough to fully utilize the 512mb's of memory anyways. Same thing with the 9800 pro 128mb version and the 256mb version.

Dont get me wrong because I think this will be a great card but I dont think it's needed. I think it would be better for ATI to focus on their next generation of cards instead of releasing this thing which may or may not be a paper launch again and they may not have them shipping in quantity for months.

x900 will support Pixel Shader 3.0 or 3.0b so you can call it next generation :)

they won't be having sli anytime soon, so agp and pci definently for awhile.

It's not all about WHAT your making. But also how much of WHAT you make.
ATI could just use this to somewhat trick people with already high end cards to buy HIGHER end cards. As they know not to many people will probably by them they can produce a small amount of them and make some money..

And 3.0 isn't really "next gen". It's basically 2.0 with a V8 instead of a V6.

This card will be PCI-e only. Its the R520 core that will be the upcoming AGP and PCIe super beast.

Whats up with changing vid cards every 5 month, it's stupid. Can't they stick to a model for a year at least.

^awesome philosophy.....at that rate we'd all be playing HL2 with an FX5200

Nobodys making you change if you dont want to. The good thing about bringing out new cards is that all the older ones go down in price, so why the hell are people complaining?

And when did ATI say that their next gen cards(X900) won't support PS 3.0?

The R520 is going to be released anytime after april 2005 and will support PS3.0 and will probably be a 24 pixel pipeline card with GDDR4 memory. The card you linked to however will be named the X850 and is due for unveiling in december. It will NOT support PS3.0 as it will have the same architecture as the x800 with just a mere MHz boost on the core and memory. It will also be PCIe only...

it's called "competition" whoever beats the other to make a new "superior" graphics card wins... which my card is still up tehre with the new ones X_X its just being able to say I have a X800 Pro or something... kinda stupid, but dumbasses pay for it!

ATI has not had any issues with the core. It's the memory that has held up both the X800XT PE (1.2GHz) and the 6800Ultra (1.1GHz).

X850
Dual DVI slots, now we are talking.
