Has anyone tried running the XB360 on a 4:3 computer monitor?
I've got a 4:3 monitor, and with it's built in settings you can compress it so that it does something very similiar to 16:9, or probably 16:9.
Does the XB360 does this automatically itself on a 4:3 monitor?
I'm hoping someone who have the 360 and a 4:3 PC monitor could try this and tell me how it is.
Thanks for any help guys!

can the xbox260 quick out dvi ???

for xmas im getting 20 " dell widescreen and i want to know if it will use dvi for best quality or wether im stuck with vga :/

there will be an adapter for dvi available, some time.

a vga to dvi adapter isn't the same as dvi.

no it isnt, dvi is used on tv's for high definition along with hdmi, vga doesnt do high definition, well i suppose it does but it does it crapily

360 -> dvi -> monitor is wht i want:p

I'm only using me monitor as a temporary solution til I get me HDTV.:)

yeah ive seen lots of screenshots of people using it on 4:3 monitors.

i dont think you'll be disappointed with VGA. it will look way better than on most tv's, and rather close to hdtv quality.

So you just need to buy a cable/adapter and you can link it up to your pc?

you buy a vga adapter which will hook up to your monitor... your pc has nothing to do with it. to get audio, i'm still not exactly sure how this works. one way to do it is to you use a very cheap cable. its got a red and a white... thing, and a black thing that you plug your speakers to. my motherboard came with it. but yeah i'm really not sure how the audio works.

Yeah, I meant monitor :D I just don't want to have to pay out for a new tv.

gh0st, for sound, if you have a sound-card, just get a Y-split adapter, connect it to your soundcard and connect the audio cables to it.:)

You get one of those with the vga cable.

My concern is the refresh rate - 60hz on a crt might make me want to throw up :/

the 360vga cord allows you to use your PC monitor. This cord comes with the audio wires also, and it supports dolby 5.1 surround sound and normal stereo (selectable through the in-game menus). I will just plug that straight up to my stereo but if you don't have a stereo you could plug it into your sound card, and play the sound through your PC sound card. :)

Please click this link for the full details and picture of the Vga adapter.

There are other cords like S-video and others available--check the other pages of MS catalog

Also, most modern monitors ( well at least all 5 of mine) you can adjust the refresh rate through the OSD (on screen display) I suggest 72 Hz minimum and 85 Hz max. I'd go with 80. You don't want to burn out your monitor. the higher the refresh, the shorter your monitor lifespan, actually setting the Refresh of the monitor too high can damage it, but since you are setting the refresh through the monitor controls, and not software, im sure the OSD wouldn't let you do that, so don't worry. :)

I don't have the option on my monitor. It's no a big deal - I plan to play the 360 on a tv - but it would have been nice for when the misses wanted to watch whatever crap it is she watches on the tele.

I've seen various pictures in seperate forums of the y-splitter being included with the cable. I've not known of anyone to buy it without the splitter - many were complaining that they needlessly paid $3-4 (tight sods :))

A Y-spitter? for what? are you using a small "line-in" input?(looks like a mini-headphone jack)

in that case you would need a female RCA to male line-in cord (harder to find)

My soundcard has RCA style inputs (red and white plugs) and the mini-headphone style jack line-in.

The VGA adapter has stereo RCA outputs (red and white plugs)

hat's fine, aslong asyou don't mind having the pc turned on. I plan to use the monitor serperately.

Yea I was suggesting that for someone who only has a good sound setup for their PC. (and becuase PC monitors don't have speakers)

I've got a powerful home theater sound system with a switch box so everything I own is hooked up to it, even my PC

I pretty much always have my PC on anyways, always doing some form of things with it, be it 3D rendering or *cough*totally legal downloading*cough*, so that ain't a problem for me.:)
Don't have the space for a home theater system even tho I could rather easily afford one.. Small room ftw..:(
I'm fine with my PC sound setup tho, so meh.

most of the new monitors, or even those slightly old (2-3 years or so) usually do like 85hz on 1024x768, but higher resolutions they lack, but i don't think it will be running on a higher res than that, or does it ?

I will hopefully run mine in widescreen 16:9 1280x720.
I'm not sure I can but with games I can, it enters a widescreen mode which the screen is squeezed together vertically so it becomes a widescreen.
I'm hoping to be able to run it like that with the 360.
