Hey guys, I've been trying to get the backwards compatability software to work on my Xbox 360 but I'm not having any luck with it. I've burnt the file onto a DVD-R disc and installed it in my Xbox 360 and it says its completed succesfully. Then when I try to play my game it gives me this error message "The game could not start. Please download the game again." meanwhile the game wasnt downloaded in the first place it was bought from a store. If anyone has had any similar problem or knows of any ways to get my backwards compatability working on my Xbox 360 I'd greatly appretiate it! Thanks alot guys.

EDIT. I have access to Xbox live gold and I also have a 20 gig HDD just incase anyone is wondering. Thanks again.

Interesting. Try resetting the console to the factory defaults then try again. If it still doesn't work you may have a bust.

Can you manage to connect your box to Live at all? If so, it'll be easier for you to get the appropriate software for backwards compatibility. Plus, you might not be installing/downloading/burning the software correctly.

If you have broadband or DSL or any fast internet and no way of connecting it to your box, see if you can share it from your main PC to your Xbox. That's what I've done a few times when I go to game on my HDTV.

Yep I can connect to Xbox live I have the gold membership. How do I download the backwards compatability update directly from xbox live? Ive been messing around looking for something like that but I cant find anything.

While you're connected to Live just put in an Xbox game and it should download the backwards compatibility deal automatically.

Wasn't Halo like the first game to get backwards-compatibility?

I did the reset to factory defaults in the network tab and reset my connection... restarted my xbox 360 and then put this disc in and no update happened and it just gave me the same error message "The game could not start, please download the game again." The game shows as halo in the trey icon and its not a downloaded copy its store bought. any other ideas or suggestions? Thanks guys.

I've ordered a Xbox made backwards compatability update disk. No my halo isnt dirty and yes I definately put it in the right way. This was also happening with Halo 2 as well. I will call tech support soon and ill get back to you if I get anything usefull out of them. Thanks again guys.
