xbox live account migration

It's my understanding that you can "recover" an xbox live account from one console to another. I have a few questions that I was hoping someone could help me with. Is it free? Do I get to transfer my DLC across with the account? How do I actually do it?

Any help is appreciated.

Its free, and anything you downloaded on the other Hard Drive you just have to redownload on the Hard Drive you're transferring too.

All you do is go through the menu to recover it and itll just ask you for some of the info from when you signed up with the account (The email you used and password)

Oh awesome. That's rather handy. Getting my own 360 after having borrowed a friend's for a while and buying some DLC on it. Will the other 360 be able to still use the DLC on it then? Essentially giving it to my friend for nothing?

DLC is saved according to your gamertag. Your friend won't be able to use it unless he's logged into your name.

Yeah what omega said, although for some odd reason when my friend bought songs for rockband on my 360 with his account, I've been able to use the songs ever since. Didn't work like that for any of his other DLC though.

Well, here's the deal.

If you bought the content logged into your account and on his console, then when you move your content, I think he may be able to still use the content. It will be registered to that console.

However, on your new console, only people who are logged into your profile will be able to use it. So let's say you have two roommates who want to play Rock Band. If they want to access your DLC, then they must log into your profile.

You can only have one console registered with the content, but there is still one master profile which has the content associated with it. If you want the new content to be able to be accessed on your system without having to be on your profile, you can use the DRM transfer tool, but that voids it on your friends console.

I'm not fussed about having to be signed in all the time. How do you go about recovering the profile in the first place? Is it just there on the menu somewhere.

Yeah, its an option when signing in, and its pretty straight forward just give the email and password you signed up with and wait a few minutes. Done.

Oh dear. I've done the migration, downloaded all the songs again on my new 360 but they don't show up to play them. Any ideas?

Will I need to use the DRM transfer tool?

Edit: sorted, had to use the DRM thingie and redownload it all. Got rid of my save on the game by accident though.
