A wireless router wouldn't work, because our county doesn't have a wireless comms tower for broadband internet access in our area. That's what I mean by Wi-max service.

God I hate dial-up.

Anyways, the request for the service has to be a joint interest among others in the community, as it's an expensive undertaking for the county.
Which means, it has to be in high demand. So it's not as simple as calling up the service and making a request.

I upped from dial-up about three months ago, I also live in a rural area.

I pay $35 a month for renting the outdoor wireless modem and the service itself (Rogers), it uploads at about 25kb/s and I download around 200kb/s (can vary, the fastest I can get is around 275kb/s).

I had dial up for 3 years before this and I do not miss it at all :|

They actually just put it out here like 2 weeks before I got it. Even the though school RIGHT NEXT DOOR to my house has fiber optics, and has had them for about a year.. :angry:
