Right - I understand that the 5600XT is hardly the best of cards, but its been running most games awful above 800x600. With the card is a P4 2.6ghz and 1GB DDR RAM. My other computer with - P4 2.4Ghz 512MB RAM and a 128MB Ti4200 - on every single game beats mine for performance. Is this right? Is the Ti4200 better than the 5600XT? Maybe it's something wrong with the system or summet I really aint got a clue :p - But erm any ideas?

Well, The ti4200 is still a great card, not much worse then the 5600.

I'd suggest doing a clean driver install, and trying from there.

actually the ti4200 IS a faster card than the god awful fx5600...

Overall conclusion

As the conducted benchmarks showed, the FX5600 chip albeit positioned as a replacement to the GeForce 4 Ti4200 chip can hardly match it. The problem is not only in the lack of software able implementing the DX9 potentials to the full, but also in its slow speed. Besides, having rounded up video cards based on the GeForce FX, you arrive at an unpleasant finding - currently, nVidia offers no good video cards for the mainstream sector. Due to the lack of games demanding GeForce FX to function properly, we believe it is not reasonable to be hasty at upgrading GeForce 4Ti models.

hmm right I swapped my 5600XT for a plain ol' 5600 and erm it seems to perform exactly the same as the Ti4200. I'm not too fussed seeing as I got these cards for nowt - but what would be a good alternative? (that doesn't burn a whole in me pocket) What d'you reckon of a 9800 pro? There going for about 140 quid these days

9800 Pro is an excellent card, especially if you can find one made by MSI (TD128 NOT TD128SP).

I have an MSI 5900xt, Overclocked more then 50mhz, for core 1 and core 2. 100 mhz in memory.

Great little overclocker, gonna push it more once i upgrade cooling.

Yup, 9800 pro. Now just to clear this up, the 5600XT is worse than the TI4200, and the 5600 I think is too. The Ultra version of the 5600 is faster than the TI4200. But yes get the 9800 pro.

Yeah but the 5600 was older, and simple crap.

But i dunno.

After further research I concluded the 5600u is barely if at all better then ti4200.

Little off topic, but how much do you think i could sell my 4200 for?

Well they can be picked up for a measly 40 quid - so not too much.

Ya get the 9800pro ...it rocks all games and has performance like a ferrari Spyder
