My god, thats the most modular weapons system i've ever seen... ever. Yet if you've read about it it's still the most easy to operate and field strip / clean and is more rugged for sand / jungle combat etc. I hate guns and killing but damn.. this could kill alot of ****ers.

that thing is a pistol/smg/mounted mg/scoped smg/scoped pistol/sniper/ and supports barrel clips :| wow.. that thing is going to kill alot of people some day.
 
Very cool.

Maybe one of those will be modeled as a selectable weapon in Half-Life 3. :D

I just don't find things designed to kill other people cool in any way. I hate weapons.

oh.. a typical sunday night in milwaukee again huh?

i don't know about the penis theory, but i wonder how the gun will hold up in the field. i suspect we'll find out before too long.

Well if that thing is anything like a penis, it's going to take a bit of time to reload between firing, which seems a bit counterproductive for something to be deployed on the battlefield.

The XM8 is pretty nifty but its something that has been comming for a long time. The M16 has needed an upgrade for years now. There is, however, one gun that will never be replaced by anything, ever:

You dont need to snipe at 100 yards since its not that long of a distance. Besides, the AK was made to be useful to 200 yards. No, its not accurate at that distance, but thats why it has full auto.

it can be, depends upon the quality of the weapon and more importantly the ammunition.

Then replace those waterguns with XM8's

I've been around guns all my life too. I understand that they have a place and aren't going anywhere (yet). I just can't see how one could call them cool. These are machines created to kill people, a whole lot of people, quickly. It's just not so cool in my eyes.
 
Sweet! That guns going to pwn some newb1es! Just looking at that picture makes me feel all funny inside.

And by that I mean, I agree with qckbeam. As it happans I dont MIND guns, but when someone posts on a forum saying "Hey look at this sweet guns! Its like, totally going to kill tons of people" like killing people is something to be proud of.. its stupid >_>

That's the thing. Killing people certainly isn't cool, and I just can't feel anything other than pure hatred for devices specifically designed to do just that. As far as killing animals goes, I have a problem with it in some regards. If it's done out of necessity (for food) and with compassion, then no I don't have a problem with it. However, given the fact that we've come so far as a species, you'd think we could find better alternatives that don't include killing off animals. I do have a problem with people that see hunting as a sport- those who hunt for the joy of the kill. That bothers me.

I dont know how to say this in simple words: Everything strives to be most like the ideal form of that thing. Beauty is approaching the ideal form whether it be a painting or a weapon.

A rifle that approaches its ideal form is beautieful.

The concept of beauty I describe does not take into accout the purpose of an object. It only takes into account how close the object comes to its essence, the idea of the object. The closer an object comes to the ideal form of that object, the more beautieful it is.

Ok, I see what you're saying. Just not my definition of beauty. I find weapons of any sort to be ugly by their very nature.
