"Twentieth Century Fox and Marvel Entertainment have bolstered the mutant roster for "X-Men 3" with Kelsey Grammer, who is set to play Beast, the oversized blue-furred creature who has not yet appeared in an "X-Men""X-Men" film."

what a weird casting choice ...I just cant see Fraiser as Hank McCoy ...the voice is right but the body isnt

Well as beast he will probably just be completely CGI and it will only be his voice. Unless they show him when he was still normal as well.

Yeah, thats what I'd guess. I can't imagine them pulling the body off without doing it CG.

they can do lots with makeup and effects, don't worry.

his voice actually would be pretty good for the character

Why not? They did chewbecca without CGI in the late seventies. All you need is a blue furry costume, okay and CGI for the action scenes.

Chewbacca and the Beast are too completely different build of characters. Chewbacca is a tall walking carpet, The Beast is more like a large blue gorilla.

Not that different at all, you can still put a guy in a blue gorilla suit and have him hanged upside down for a dozen shots, doesn't sound too complex. Well anyway this is wishful thinking on my part, I just don't like CGI characters in movies. Costumes and makeup are better in my opinion.

I really like Kelsey Grammar and the Xmen series. I'm fairly confident in the casting people although it seems a weird choice. Is this beast character known for its great laughs?

offtopic: I hope Famke Janssen reappears, she's hot AND from my country :cheese:

The beast is full of witty repartees, he's the "science guy" so yeah Fraiser fits the role in a way. It's odd, now I feel like the beast always had an english accent in the comics.

He does come across as a very eccentric English type science guy, but Kelsey Grammar does have the posh accent and he does have a voice that is very intellectual, so he should pull it off.

you know hank mccoy was in x-men 2? during the bar seen if you pay attention to the tv he is giving a speech

They'll do something similar to what they did with Gollum in Lord of the Rings, i.e. mixing the guy running around with actual CG animation.

Yeah, Kelsey Grammar's voice is just about perfect, I think.

Now that it's been mentioned, I can't really picture anyone else playing that part.

How does the Beast become a mutant anyway?

An accident while trying to create a hair-growth formula??? ;)

I forget.

Kelsey is a great actor. Now I`m interested in X3 again. Woho!

I can actually see a problem with Frasier doing it, the Frasier character and the voice that Kelsey Grammar has does come across as a very upmarket, very posh and intelligent voice, but Frasier's voice is also quite condescending, something the Beast never was.

no he's a mutant, you're born a mutant you dont become one

oh and razor you have a good point

I think Grammer will do fine. And I think what people are saying about the Beast costume thing might have to do with physique. Beast is well-built, and Kelsey Grammer is old. I'm guessing there will be alot of CG involved.

BTW, with these characters being revealed, I have to off-topic: Man, what about Psylocke? Get some dark-haired, curvy chick like Angelina Jolie and it's a done deal.

Good thing that he's not doing the Frasier character. It's not Grammar playing Frasier playing Beast. It's Grammar playing Beast. I think he'll do fine.

Nah they really shouldn't have a completely CGI character, especially not a furry one. CGI fur still looks a bit odd when it's in a real-world setting. Also, the effects currently in X-Men look good, and they don't need some over-sized blue piece of crap f*cking that up. A suit on some huge brick sh*t-house of a man with a Grammer voice-over or something would be much better.

If you would read what Ionize posted:
http://filmforce.ign.com/articles/615/615826p1.html

Am I to assume this is a voiceover role with a CG character, or is there talk of make-up?
No, there will be make-up and prostheses. It will be a combination of artforms to bring it to life, but a lot of it will maintain around his face – his eyes, his mouth, and so on. It will be very much like the kind of stuff we did with The Thing…

ya but they managed to make an excelent nightcrawler ... Ithink beast could only be done right with cgi ...in the comics it's extremely rare to find beast walking ...he's always hanging upside down or doing flips or whatever ...I just cant see Kelsey doing that sort of thing (or any human)

all new xmen sucked :)

the best era was the john byrne/Chris Claremont era ..which ended with issue 147 (I think) ...before most of you were born

best xmen story of all time: "Days of Future past"

Once again I'm laughing out loud at work, and once again my boss is looking at me funny. Thanks, Stern. I need to stop coming here while I'm at work.

i got a good chuckle out of that
i think Grammer can pull it off with the help of CGI..he definitely has the voice for the role if u separate the Frasier character from the actor me thinks.

hmm...who is the director? depending on who's at the helm, i think they can get the right acting out of the cast.

ya me too :)

Anyone remember that "Spiderman and the X-Men Arcade's Revenge" game for the SNES? I loved that game.

I played it lately on an emulator and it's lame, but nevermind.

D'oh!

Well I'm sure it must have been a progressive thing. He is a very good scientist/philosopher. There's no way he would have survived in the real world if he was born a blue ape-thing. And even if Xavier had his school for decades and brought him in as a young child, wouldn't Beast have become one of the first to join the X-men team?

http://www.mutanthigh.com/alternatex/ultimate/beast.html

Xavier and Jean performed an experimental surgery on him using animal gene therapy. The surgery saved his life, but turned his hair blue.

When the X-Men were captured by Weapon X, Dr. Cornelius augmented Beast's abilities (as well as giving him a keen sense of smell). This furthered his transformation, causing him to grow blue hair all over his body and giving him claws on his hands and feet.

Google pwns.
