now my brother reformated and it was time to activate windows and it says that his product key was wrong and when i tried to reactivate over the internet it says that it is invalid. Why wont it work??

Also this is very important, is it possible to put his hardrive into my comp as slave so he can salvage some files before he has to reformat again?

Don't worry, call up microsoft, and do it step by step online. I had the same problem when buying a new copy of windows, and then I re-installed bus drivers and it wanted to re-activate but it wouldn't.

Personally since you have a legitimate copy, i'd just crack it and save time.
And the slave thing should work fine if you need to do it

I wouldn't do that, I would phone them up and get a new prod key since you bought the software. They should give you a new one.

well i did call but it was like an automated thing where i had to say some activation number and it said it was wrong. But is there a number i can find where i can talk to a real person?

grr called support and said i ahvfe to talk to the computer manufacture since windows came preloaded with the system (hp). Now this is bs i mean if i have a cd key i should have the right to reinstall windows...grr i guess ill call hp

I've had that happen to me the last 2 times I reformated... I don't know why. All you have to do is call the number that it says to call, enter a bunch of numbers, talk to some tech support lady in India that you can hardly understand, and they give you some new code thing. Only takes like 10-15 minutes.
