I read that you can increase performance under windows by setting it in server mode rather than workstation mode. How do you do this under windows xp?

Here is what i found:

"If your system has 256 MB RAM or more, run in server mode rather than workstation mode. To run in server mode, follow these steps:

Right-click on My Computer and select Properties.
Click the Performance tab.
Click File System.
Select Network Server as the typical role of the PC."

Well... its not easy to find those options under xp if you follow that guide. Is that option hidden somewhere?

I have WinXP Pro
Under "My Computer" properties/advanced tab/Performance settings/advanced tab it says:
"By default, the computer is set to use a greater share of processor time to run your programs.
Adjust for the best performance of:
1)Programs 2)background services"
I would think this is the same thing...
Wouldn't you want your program currently highlighted to perform the best?

Yeah. Maybe the above mentioned option is under windows 2000? So they simplified it and set these options instead. Sure i have always used the option 1) Programs to utilize the majority of recources.

But i cant seem to find an option to "set the role of teh PC" Maybe that is not an issue inder XP Pro?

Hey Ruben.

If I remember correctly the option you talk about is only applicable to Win9x and Me. In 2000 and XP it's not an issue.
