XSI is lagging

i recently re-formatted my pc as i had literaly run out of space. i have just installed xsi mod tool 4.2 and it works fine but when i load the reference pictures i am working from it lags really bad that i cant use it. does anyone have any ideas why its doing this.

whats the size of the reference pictures? if its really big that could be your problem.

their like 700x400 and the thing is i was using these reference pictures before i reformated so i know its not a fault with the pictures.

what rendering mode is xsi on ..in max u can choose between opengl , software and directx.

What's the rotoscopy images file type? .bmp are huge and lag the XSI at least with my computer.

its a jpeg and its like 65kb any ideas?
