XSI to 3DS Max

I've been modelling with the XSI mod tool for about 6 months now, since HL2 came out. Now I'm not bad at it, I've been told by the majority of people to get to know 3DS max instead, since it is much better for gamers and has a much larger community for support. I've got the Version 7 trial, and was just wondering how hard it is to swap from XSI to Max? Anyone done this before?

Thanks for any help.

I started with XSI, made a sniper model without knowing what i did :D
then i began with 3ds and its really easy to learn.

I just downloaded XSI 4.2 with the unreal+valve addons, and after 10 minutes of messing about with no manual reading it seems pretty easy. I use max a lot and going from XSI to max should also be easy.

I use max since the version 2.5 and when I tried XSI... outch, no, I don't like it. Some people would probably say you should try again XSI is wonderfull, yea it seems great but when you can model something easily in Max and then you try to do something simple in XSI and it's not working, well, that's frustrating, there is alot less documentation so, I'll guess I'll stick with Max.

So, anar_chist, I don't know how hard the switch will be but i'll be there to help you. :)

I use XSI a lot and I've recently started playing around with Max, and I've gotta say I'm having a lot of trouble. I don't find the navigation as easy, and I'm not sure what I'm actually meant to be doing. Rotoscopy seems a bit strange and the moving a scale tools seem much harder. but anyway I'll carry one... see how it goes. Is the best way to start with box modelling or a different technique?

The spline/extrude method is easier but it's not the proper way of doing models for games, next there is the box modeling, also quite simple and it's a good way to model because you always keep control of what you do. Now I use the plane method, like in Ichi's video. The modeling method is up to the modeler but I can say I prefer the plane method. It also depends what you want to model. If you haven't look at Ichi's Video (beretta) then i'd suggest you to do it now :) You'll learn a bunch of stuff and you'll probably learn this new plane thechnique.
