the XT is about 50 bux more, but what would u guys get?
the leadtek 6800gt? or the x800XT? do u think that the 50 dollar difference is worth it? thx

Personally, i would buy neither.

I would get an X800Pro VIVO and flash it to X800 XT PE. I actually did this yesterday - bought a Connect3D X800Pro VIVO for and flashed it (using instructions here and here ) to unlock the extra 4 pipelines (to make it 16, same as X800 XT) and overclocked to 520/560 (core/mem) which is the same speed as an X800 XT PE. :bounce:

Between the two, I'd pick the x800XT. A little bit of OCing and you'd have yourself an X800XTPE+.

griz, i really dont wanna do any flashing, plus its NOT guaranteed to work. some ppl can unlock the pipes, but dont get the clocks....some ppl cant even get the extra pipes to work.

ASUS, i see that u have a gt and 3000+. how is it?
i currently have a pny 68gt....do you think i should sell it and get the xt?

the person that wants the gt is willing to pay 400.

the x800 xt beats the 6800 gt in most games. It could probably easily overclock to pe speeds. But if you have a 6800 gt already dont bother. But then again if you are getting $400 thats not a huge loss and if you thing the price vs performance is worth that then definatly get the xt.

blackeye, thats the thing.. i dont know how much of a performance boost it'll be over the gt. the main reason im even thinking about it is, because the guy is willing to pay 400, and even pay 420 he said, do its not a huge loss to me.

Unless you could really use the performance, really want an ATI card or come out in a 'good' position financially...it isn't worth the bother to upgrade from 6800GT to X800XT.

But is it true that the current ATI cards are more CPU dependent as well?

Dependant, no. Flurish more with a better system? A little, yes.

well i am gonna get a amd64 3500+ 90nm
Abit V8 kt800pro
1gb ocz pc3500
and a gt or a xt.

so what do ya'll think? no matter what, my gt is being sold. so i can either get the Leadtek a400gt 6800gt, or the x800xt.

the reason why im confused, is all the websites all have different results. i mean i know test systems are different, but its hard to believe that all these sites are unbiased in reviews.

both of these cards will easily run HL2, though X800 may be slightly better it dont really matter cause its like 105 FPS to 115 FPS, both are more then enough. Having said that, the 6800 is probably a slightly better card overall, the X800 works better in HL2 because HL2 is better optimized to towards the ATI cards.

Here is a more recent review of the 6800U with the X800XT PE included. Both the 6800GT and X800XT's are just lower clocked versions of their higher models, the 6800GT more so.
They used the 4.9 WHQL ATI drivers which have the memory efficency issue. Both ATI and Nvidia were ran with Opts On.

Here is another review, done on the 6th of Sept, of the 6800U with the X800XT PE and 6800GT included.

Any games benchmarked in those reviews that you plan to play?

im really not into MAX fps, im more into the AVERAGE fps. yeah lets say a card can hit 170fps, but at times drops to 30fps. another cards has a max fps of 120fps, but never drops below 40fps...i'd rather take the one that doesnt drop below 40.

sorry man im at work, and in a hurry....couldnt find the edit button.

ASUS thx for those links. i read both of them, but they seem to contradict eachother..my main concern is the HL@ / cs:S scores. one shows the xt winning, the other shows the gt winning.

both of those reviews are using old ati drivers...do you think that really matters?

If you already have a GT, I can promise you that any difference there is won't be worth $50 or whatever it is.

get a x800pro vivo wich is probaly cheaper
also get a good artic vga silencer
then flash it to x800xt pe
you wont regret :)

no gaurantees that it is 100%.

well right now my gt sometimes drops to 35fps...to me that is totally crappy for a new gen card to do that..hopefully the x800xt wont drop in fps as low as the gt. then again it might be my system:

2.4c@3ghz
abit is7
1gb ddr400

soon i'll have

amd64 3500+ 90nm
abit V8 kt800pro
1gb ocz pc3500
and the Xt or GT.

Actually, some sources are reporting 100% (or very close to 100%) success rates with both unlocking the extra four pipelines and overclocking to XT PE speeds, on certain brands of the X800Pro VIVO including the Powercolor and Connect3D brands.

dude tahts nuttin. you either created your own server, or jsut running aroundin an empty server. i'd like to see action going on. any card (gt/pro/xt) can run at over 100fps with nobody around.

Griz, i dunno man, alot of ppl can unlock the 4 pipes, but cant hit xt/pe sppeds without a volt mod. i really dont wanna volt mod.

Mine drops me pretty low as well. Not to 35 but still low. That's why I don't consider it much of an upgrade from my 9800Pro. At times I am not doing any better.

Might make a big leap here involving PCI-Express, nForce4 and X800's.

I think it might actually be a little more important to buy into an architecture rather than numbers.

ASUS my friend bought my old 9800pro off me, and he only averages 40fps maxxed out. so when our gt's drop to 35-40fps, 9800pros are probably dropping to 20-30.

Well in Farcry and Battlefield games is where I noticed the drop from the good performance with the 6800GT. To similar a similar frame rate I had got with my 9800Pro. Those were the games I was playing at the time when I switched. I'm not really comparing it to source. I don't know how my 9800Pro would have performed in CSS.

Of course I did have my 9800Pro OCed quite a bit...

hey ASUS thanks u been alot of help man.

anyways, so i been reading about ABITs, ASUS, motherboards, and shitload of ppl are having probs with the 90nm amd64's.

you know anything about this? from what i hear, half the time the 90nm cpus wont boot.

Well I know before they were released, boards didn't have the Athlon 64 90nm versions listed in bios so they would have to update it. Otherwise I have not paid attention.
