Morons are out to regulate videogames again, and of course instead of focusing on the worst offenders, they basically just list the top titles. But when it comes to HL2, it's pretty obvious that whomever wrote the description knows nothing about the game...

'Half-Life 2'

Scientist battles against an alien invasion
- Violent, gory and blood-filled
- n Player watches other humans being devoured
- n Player kills aliens and federal agents

Federal agents?!!!

And humans being... devoured? Eh? Do they mean getting headcrabbed?

Well the Metro cops are cops, after all. We can't be teached to kill our suppressors, can we?

Man I want someone to write a letter to the author of that article or the sources he got that bullshit information from and tell him/them how much of ****ing idiots they are. But im too lazy...

it seemed like a good idea (stiffer penalties for people who sell M rated games to kids under 18), but they got hl2 wrong

you shouldnt be playing hl2 if your under 18 anyway :)

Games don't make people violent.

Look at me, I am a real life ganster.. I steal cars and shoot people everyday. No, I don't play GTA or listen to gansta rap... on the contrary my favorite game is Barbie Deep Sea Adventure and I love to listen to Michael Bolton.

I recognize Barbie and Bolton as forms of entertainment and not confuse them with my reality which is filled with drug dealing and pimping.

Almost every video game article gets something wrong. It's annoying. Even a New York Times glowing review of HL2 called the antlions "lion ants" and made a few other mistakes.

Correction: You shouldnt be playing hl2 if you're under 17 . The rating AO (Adults Only) is for no one under 18.

Funny how they try and blame the gaming industry for somthing that is the parents responsibility. If you cant stop your child from buying a game and playing it then its your fult not the gaming industry or destributers. Violence is natural...it happens every day, the earlier a person understands this the less if will effect them.

I seriously think that people who write these kinds of articles are dumber then retards. Sad.

Pathetic isn't it, how people who can't be bothered to find real reasons for violence or agression, make up crap reasons, like computer games or TV obviously makes you want to go outside and be destructive.
For some reason they cant seem to see that kids get beaten up at school or their parents get drunk and beat them.

People get f**ked up, but not because of games.

That was great. Thank you.

Edit: In reply to the stuff about age limits: I'm 15. The shopkeeper didn't even make a face when I handed him the box, clearly reading 18+ in the lower left corner(yes it is 18+ here, I'm looking at the box right now).

I thought the US made the first step to protect Video Games as an piece of art?
and now this... great. Parents have to decide want their kids should play
before they buy a game for their kid they just have to get Info about the game and decide if its ok for their kid
BASTA

Sorry for the off-topic post.

God. I make one mistake and you're on my back. Did you check that guy's posts? Also, I reccommend that you check my other posts in that thread, in which I clarified that I didn't mean to sound so generalizing and like a racist and that it was just me formulating the sentence badly. "Proper English" to me is when you don't make some serious mistakes that make your posts hard to read and you don't make some mistakes about basic mistakes, like the abuse of the apostrophe.
Who be the "spelling nazi" now? You be's!
People who haven't read the thread he quoted from: let me quote myself from one of my later posts in that thread "I made a mistake, get over it; I won't kill you".

Lemonking: I somehow doubt the US really made the greatest effort to protect it as art, it's probably just that they were the ones who boomed it out so much that people heard of it.

FFS, I didnt even notice that until that guy mentioned it, I dont care if he makes an error and I'm sure no one else does. (apart from you)

In the UK the game has been given a 15 rating - do people trust us more or something? I guess it's the lack of access to high-powered rifles at our local supermarche :D

To be honest games don't make me feel violent....people who talk about something they don't know with inflated superiority make me violent!

I was referring to the American rating which is M (Mature) - this rating is for 17 and up. The one above it is AO which cannot be sold to people under the age of 18, they treat these games like porn.

CNN shows soldiers murdering people everyday, which is fine I guess as long as it's not made into a video game.

Oh, nevermind, americas army has a teen rating 13yrs+

feh i think if you are mature enough to handle a game you should be allowed to play it.

for example I once saw a 8 year old holding his own at ut2003

The article is about HL2, but they are obviously describing HL1.

The "federal agents" are the marines and black ops; Barnacles eat people; bodies explode. Hl2 is bloody, but not as bloody as the DOOM- influenced HL1.

Its gonna come in at some point and Games will be toned down. its the future cause parents are too stupid to monitor what there kids play.

this game is rated M for mature that means 17 and above iirc. how many of the people on this board are REALLY under that age limit?

Don't the people that write these articles notice that the people who commit the most crimes, by far, don't even play video games? Honestly, most violent offenders come from poor, inner-city homes. Maybe the US government should use the money they burn trying to keep "kid's" hands off of games, and use it to help those people out. Wait... that is happening! Poverty is dropping in America! In fact, crime rates and violent crime rates are ALSO going down! Hmm, I wonder if the media might, just might, have their heads stuck up their asses again... (and this is coming from a Liberal :-P )

people that are influenced in any way by the violence in video games are just plain stupid.. i really can't understand how someone becomes more violent by playing video games! sure, i become cranky if i spend my entire summer playing fps's and such, but i don't go out and kill people! jesus christ were will it end if we keep going like this?

EDIT- a little comment for that dude that said something about latin people learning proper english: tell me something in correct spanish or whatever and i shall forgive you for such selfishness

Do games make people violent...or do violent people play games...

these people are always going on bout how games are bad for children bla bla bla etc, they make it out that its the games fault. they just want something to blame. Before games it was movies, before movies it was general TV before that i asume they said that school made people violent?...well it wudnt suprise me!

I've always loved how GTA is maligned because the player 'solicits prostitutes and then beats them'
well...only if you, the player does...
did you do that family first **** fest illinois?

the bit about killing federal agents was funny. damn fbi and their striders.

lol maybe :)

Player kills aliens and federal agents? That's ironic as you are working for G-man who is named after an old term for the FBI. He's the only possible "federal agent" in HL2 and he's meant to be have had some kind of connection to the US government and military in the previous games.

I guess HL2's story will make us easily influenced young people want to fight against oppression and censorship as well then. ;)

What absolute morons.

By the way, to those saying that people under the age of 18 shouldn't be playing HL2....WHY?
I'm 16, I think I can handle it.

i'm 15, and i think that the ratings system is screwd up!
badly! 18 just for some blood and violence?
everything below 18 arent babys!!!
the 18 and below should be 13 and below.

infact 7 and below are probly the only ones violence COULD ever efect! couse at that point they now the differnce beatwin right and rong, and playing a game isnt going to make then think right is rong and rong is right, couse they allready now better!

Well my state senator is Joe Lieberman so I think I win in "fear of losing my violent video games" contest. :(

thats trully stupid

why not they just say to the kids that ARE VIDEOGAMES NOTHING REAL
but noooo they are too lazy

here nobody care a shit about ratings,I saw kids of 8 years old playing GTA3 and VC and SA and sure they are not so stupids to go to streets to kill people whit a baseball bat

IMO the solution will be talk to the kids to teach and teach them to not do what they see on videogames or movies

anyway I dont think young kids will like to see blood and gore
