For a long time I've been getting up relatively early (7 am) and around 9 through 11:30 I feel completely lethargic and wanting to go sleep indefinitely. (I am sleeping about 8 hours each night.) It is so annoying because I end up wasting quite a few hours.

Anyone have the same thing?

I get that too. I usually go to bed around 10 - 10:30 and wake up at 7:00 and i get a good nights sleep. But like you said, around 11 i get tired again.

yeah. I have to have caffeine or I can't get anything done.

I really don't feel fully rested unless I get like 10 hours.

There are weekdays where I'll get up at 7 after going to bed at 3 in the morning, do a whole day of college til 6 then stay up again until 2/3. Then there's days where I'll go to bed early, get up early then come home and want to go straight to sleep.

S'weird.

Your body is apparently meant to have a dip around lunch time, which is why the spanish take siestas. Just drink a coffee and take a 15 minute nap for it to kick in.

Something interesting I heard on the radio:

If you are pretty tired, you can have a cup of coffee just before you take a nap. When you wake up in a little while, you will hit the ground running.

Er - I guess that's exactly what you said?

stop drinking caffeine at a certain point in the day so you can go to bed when your tired and also try reading before you sleep. Its good to keep your room dark too

I have a cinema class from noon to 2pm. So we are watching movies. When I want to sleep. And I do.

This is probably one of the best things you can do - stop your caffeine intake at least 5 hours before you're planning to go to bed. I find that I have problems falling asleep when I drink something caffeinated (like a Cola of the Cherry persuasion) at dinner.

15-30 minute cat naps do wonders for this, just make sure you don't take a longer nap (1-3 hours) because that will just make you more sluggish and tired after you wake up.

Other solutions: eat more healthily, exercise (it gives you a lot more energy/alertness generally if you're fit)

Me too, I think I was having trouble breathing in my sleep. These helped a lot. But I still ended up having to see a doctor about it.

Exercising helps a ton.

Caffeine for me just makes me more tired after the initial high.

I've been unable to wake up when I want to.

Sometimes I'll sleep for 17 hours and feel like I am unable to wake myself up any earlier.

I'm confident that's just because I don't have anywhere to be though. When I have to work, even when I have to wake up at 3 AM to get ready and go... I do it. As long as I have a proper alarm clock to wake me up.

I've been having that problem lately as well, but I think it's more just apathy (although I do seem to feel consistently tired all the time). Three years ago, I used to sleep pretty normally, and six hours of sleep seemed like not enough. Two years ago, I was able to stay up until 2 or 3 AM every night working on homework and get 4-5 hours of sleep.

Then I think I got burned out with school and other stuff, and I'd fall asleep by accident and wake up (without an alarm clock) consistently around 4 or 5 AM to do homework.

Now I just fall asleep and don't wake up until 8 or 9 AM. I'll even fall asleep in really bad positions (like curled up in uncomfortable chairs).

I have fairly average sleeping habits.

I hate getting up early though, especially for school.

Eat Garuana berries or some shit, it's better than caffeine.

Yeah allergies suck nuts. Half the time I can't fall asleep it's because of that.

Do you know what you are allergic to? You know all the products that are specially formulated for people with sensitive skin... soaps, shampoos, deodorants... they give me a rash :p. I had a friend that apparently developed an allergy to sunlight.

Yeah I've always had problems with this, generally I aim for about 9 hours sleep (otherwise I can't function). But I tend to wake up, say "oh just 15 more mins" then wake up 4 to 5 hours later wtfing

Guarana berries? They're full of caffeine.

I love getting up early myself. I usually do it more during holidays than when I'm working. In fact, I find it easier to get up when I have nothing to get up for (Other than the pleasure of experiencing the morning sun) than when I have to go to work.
I also usually wake up about 30 minutes before I need to get up. Then I can doze and enjoy the fact that I can lie in bed for an "extra" half an hour.
