I re-installed HL2, downloaded all the updates and am re-playing the game. The soldiers use noticably more nades and loading times are significantly shorter. And I never would have bothered with the updates(which were downloaded incredibly fast) if it wasn't for Steam.
3 cheers for Steam

I recently installed HL2 again because I apparently had 25 GB of unpartitioned space, so I installed it in the new partition. Didn't notice anything about shorter loading times, but they do throw nades alot.

Possible Grenading:
Fixed some NPC actions not being properly randomized

Load times:
Optimization to the Steam filesystem to reduce game launch and level transition time
as well as many other optimizations

so valve updates their games ? wow never seen that done before

HAhahahahaha holy damn valve, just say "upped the grenade throwing var". Jeez. I love it when valve goes all pseudo-official in their updates.

Steam is good. Never had problems with it. At least not more problems than, say, MSN.

Delete clientregistry.blob in the map /Steam/ and restart Steam.

I've done that a few times, I've also deleted profile.gcf, restarted, blah blah blah.

I don't suppose it helps that I'm tunnelling, but still, I never had this problem before :|
