So my trusty old 5900 has just been replaced with a ti4200, because it has some sort of weird disease. My monitor keeps displaying that my computer is in standby mode and I can't get out of it. I restart my computer and there's gray lines down the screen, and it freezes and restarts and repeats the process. When I can get to the OS a box pops up saying that my graphics card isnt getting enough power, which is ridiculous cause my cd drives are both unplugged from the power supply and motherboard if that makes a difference, and I have only two hard drives plugged in (one ata and one sata) plus my power supply supposedly kicks ass (my dad's words. It's around 450 watts, which should be more then enough for my old setup). I also took every single card out besides the 5900, including my sound card that doesnt work anyway.
So I guess does anyone have any ideas? I'm thinking it's about damn time to get a whole new computer.

Did you try safe mode?
Did you uninstall your olf GeForce drivers?

I'd go for uninstalling all Nvidia display drivers than rebooting into safemode and use Driver Cleaner than reboot again and install the drivers.

Like you've said, I really can't see how you couldn't be getting enough power to that bad boy.

No this is PSU issue. Try plugging different power-line like the one from one of your HDD and see what happens.

If that doesn't work, try getting different PSU and boot with it.

Before PSU kick the bucket their power deteriorates first; What used to be 500w PSU goes down to 300w in few years and keeps on detoriating till death do you apart. So if this is an old PSU, it may not be the 480w bad boy used to be.

Good Luck.

Thanks for all the replies. I'll try what you guys have said and if none of i works, I guess I'll look to a new power supply.
