Ok lets say your computer was running a
Athlon 64 3200+ Cpu
Either a MSI K8T Neo-FIS2R VIA K8T800 OR ASUS K8V Deluxe VIA K8T800 Motherboard
ASUS Radeon 9800XT/VTD 256MB
And two Western Digital 36GB S-ATA, 10K RPM in Raid 0

And you want 1024mb of Memory.
You decided you want either

1GB (512MBx2) PC4000 DDR500 CAS3 (OCZ5001024ELDC-K) -this is OCZ Memory
OR
TWINX1024-3200LLPRO 2x512MB PC3200 -This is corsair

The OCZ memory has a setting of 3-4-4-8
AND
The Corsair Memory has a setting of 2-3-2-6

The OCZ memory runs at 500mhz but the Latency is only 3-4-4-8, which seems slow. The corsair runs at 400mhz and has a fast latency if 2-3-2-6

My question is what memory would be faster? Even though the latency is 3-4-4-8 on the OCZ will the 100mhz extra make a huge perfomance gain when playing games with all setting turned on. Is there a point of getting DDR500 if your not overclocking? And if you change the latency in your BIOS to much will it fry the memory and the memory wont work ever again or will the computer not boot up and all you have to do is change the memory back to it original setting?

I got one more question if the Athlon doesnt support dual channel memory (im not sure if it does or doesnt I have to check) is there a point of getting (2)512mb memory sticks as appossed to one 1024mb memory stick.

I just read over this again and im not sure if those motherboards even support DDR 500 ill check back in a while.

Hmm I would go for the corsair, simply because if i remember correctly the current amd 64s arent ddr 500.

Remember...
Tom's Hardware said:
High-quality DDR333 RAM with quick timings will outperform a DDR400 module with timing settings that have been deliberately rolled back to increase the clock speed.
The Corsair.

You could use the DDR500 at 500mhz only if you OCed your memory speed to 250mhz (DDR mhz x2 = 500mhz).

Mushkin/Corsair personally.
Possibly OCZ.
Kingston is good but I stay way from them because of personally experience.

!

Is it the 51 or the normal athlon 64? cuz with the normal athlon 64 bit u only get a pc2700/333Mhz buz and with the FX 51 u need ECC RAM cuz its built on server tech.

As far as I have concluded as loing as u have Cache latency 2 then ur set, the others arent important at all, u can only measure it, not feel it... Well thats what my stick can handle the other numbers are the next lowest as far as I can remember ;o) 2x Samsung pc2700 512 MB

All Athlon64 CPUs (3000+/3200+/FX51) use DDR400 PC3200 (200mhz)...
All CPUs out there right now can use PC3200...
The bus on the Athlon 64's are 800mhz btw. The 333mhz fsb is on some of the Athlon XP CPUs.
The memory bus on the Athlon XP is up to 400mhz though.

If the anthlon 64 motherboards dont support dual channel memory is there any point of getting two sticks of 512? Or should i just go with one stick of 1024?

Price...plus you can use the 2 sticks of 512mb on another PC at a later date in time in dual channel if you upgraded from that.
Also timings on the 1gb sticks might not be 2-2-2-5.
