Many of you probably aren't aware of Carl Cameron who printed a story on the Fox web site that was a complete lie about Kerry. The article was quickly removed but can still be found in archives. Now, if you remember when CBS did this 4 people got fired and one person had to step down. Not at our Fair & balanced Fox which recently promoted Carl Cameron and a couple others:

DUDE, WE NEED FOX NEWS IN ORDER TO MAKE UP FOR THE LIBERAL BIAS IN THE AMERICAN MEDIA, SO CARL CAMERON GETTING PROMOTED IS, LIKE, COMPLETE JUSTICE 'N SHIT

Okay, I think I just spoke for some of the people that were undoubtedly going to reply to this.

Also, I won't even mention the fact that the basis for the CBS story was pretty much accurate, the document wasn't. What Carl Cameron did was print a total lie with absolutely no basis facts.

OMG, firdt CBS and now even Fox reports inaccurate news, OMG, won't somebody think of the children.

Nobody in CBS admitted to the Bush story being a joke. There is no possible way it could be taken as a joke. This was not the case with Cameron's story, which he immediately apologized for.

ahahahahaha, lol. yeah, um, how can the story be true if its based on false documents?

CBS: Denied the falsifying to the end

Fox: apologized and wasnt a big news story?

yes, that damned fox.

The firing, like most thing in business, was done for financial reasons... CBS had to start the investigation and carry through with stiff action to salvage what they could of their credibility...

It was CBS who received thousands of letters of complaint and threats from advertisers not Fox.

Well, Cameron put it on a website. The CBS peeps put it on NATIONAL TELEVISION.

Does it matter? Journalists on both ends are not doing their jobs, they are skewing facts and making up total lies to get their views across. Thats not journalism, but I love how when fox apologises its ok, but damn you rather! you rookie!

FOX immediately apologized and removed the piece. Dan Rather stood with it until the very end, blaming it on 'neo-con' bloggers out to get him. Sounds rather paranoid.

Yep... Get your news from AP or Reuters before the cable & news companies buy the stories...

Better yet get off your a$$ and go see what's going on in the world. Am I right?

Well, if you follow the interpretation of the events where Mape screwed up the fact checking for whatever reason and Rather and the gang simply failed to catch the problem before they ran the story, then Rather's reaction would make sense.
He would have been unaware of Mape's actions, and wouldn't have much reason to trust bloggers over his own co-workers.

I haven't seen anything that would indicate that wasn't the case.
So really, CBS would be even more responsible than necessary by firing Rather.

Nope.
We rely on the media for accurate knowledge of events across the world. I can't exactly head to Rather's office and ask him exactly what happened at CBS, as an example. There's really no substitute. You can check different networks, but you're still relying on them.

As the second-largest american news network (and most watched?), FOX's responsibility is to be accurate.
If not, then that means the majority of people who watch the news will get incorrect information. and then it's likely a few of them will post on these forums with "lol kerrys a metrosexual" or whatever the joke of the day is.
Inaccuracy breeds misinformation, which makes everyone dumber in turn.

If you post a joke you specify in the article it is a joke, when someone goes to a news site they think they are reading facts, not jokes. So he prints a lie, says I'm sorry only after he is caught, and then gets a ****ing promotion out of it.

The story was pretty much accurate, it is a pretty obvious that Bush avoided his national guard duty to a degree. The problem is that when CBS published this everyone seemed to forget. Again, so you say I'm sorry for printing a total lie on a major news web site you should get promoted?

Well, Cameron put it on a website. The CBS peeps put it on NATIONAL TELEVISION.
Do you know how many visitors web sites get these days? CBS news probably gets around 8 million viewers a night (someone might want to double check this). I wouldn't be suprised if Fox got at least 4 million a day to their site.

no it was Dan. It actually happened and the dude that did it is in prison for killin a good morning america crew member. He thought media was beaming signals into his head and wanted the frequency so he could stop it.

sad. ;(

(and most watched?),
Correct. It is the most watched by a long shot.

He would have been unaware of Mape's actions, and wouldn't have much reason to trust bloggers over his own co-workers.
Well when there is an overwhelming amount of evidence contradicting the documents, he damn well should open his eyes and look at it. Just another example of elitist media acting as such. During election night, he had another paranoid tirade about the internet (bloggers) when they were calling Ohio to Bush. He almost seemed to be begging for them to be wrong. I have a video if you want to see it.

Heres the biggest difference,.

The Fox guy intentionally reported a lie, while CBS personel believed that what they reported was true.
