lol. I'm a 25 minute ride away from home. I'm in school..watching you guys enjoy the best game of all time.

So without any spoilers or any cool things, just in ur own words tell me, people who played it, does it live up to the hype? The reviews? Is it fun? What do you guys think of the game?
 
We hate you too, simply because you're not playing as well and are therefore not as good as us.
 
Very good fun but I have developed a phobia of water...

Still two hours to go, then put my kids to sleep all adding up 5 hours before I can play...

I just got home from school. Damn, this unlock is slow! 38%...
 
6 hours in, just got off the airboat. So far, nothing special. Doom3 was better. Hoping for better.
 
Uhh no. Im less then an hour in, and its already blown doom 3 out of the water.
 
It starts to pick up after the airboat sequence, which IMO was way too drawn out and Valve went overkill on it.

its arsome :) was just coming accross some head crabs :) they appear in a really sweeet way, just wait and see :D

i was using some chair i found lieing around as a shield :) like im some kinda bad ass head crab tamer :)

No, I don't work for any company. Just a gamer.

We all know the pro's of this game, people have raved enough in other threads.
Here are the cons:

Graphics: running @ 1280x1024, everything at max, no AA, 8x AF. Could be better. Some shiny surfaces, not nearly enough bumpmaps. Water saves the day. Otherwise, you really have to look to see eye candy.

Loading times: are horrible. Not HL1 at all. Running @ 2G of ram and loading times are about 15-20 sec. Disappointed. HL1 was so much better.

AI: Haven't seen any yet. Gotta wait till later (so far, combine soldiers just stand in one spot until I kill them).

Story: Is there one? Just got off the airboat after about 6 hours of play. The story hasn't started yet. Maybe will play for 30 hours, I hope.


Impression: just like doom3 - initial disappointment, then the game starts to grow on you. Definitely nowhere near all the hype. (stupid manhacks, what a gyp. was expecting much more suspense:).

Welcome to the forums, acrh2! Although everyone has the right to their own opinion, you sir, aparently have less brains than a labotomised hamster!

[EDIT] Ok, so you justified some of your gripes but to say Doom 3 is better is like saying you'd rather take a flint axe in to battle against the terrorists in Mosul becuase the M4a1 takes to long to (re)load and doesn't have as much (hi)story as your prehistorc axe :p

That said, on to my view of the game so far:

I played it for about 5 minutes when I went home for lunch. The graphics are awesome, the textures are very very realistic. The sound is great (unfortunately it loops occasionally on my rig and that hangs the system 'till it sorts itself out, usually no more than 4-5 secs) the animation, especially the facial animation is superb. Better than anything I've ever seen, even CGI movies look somehow 'fake' compared to this. Overall, you're in for a treat when you get home mate, this is simply the best FPS game I've ever played (and at 29 I've played 'em all and I'm saying this after ONLY 5 MINUTES OF PLAY!) and could be the best game of all time. Only time will tell. :cool:
 
After playing the first hour of the game I must disagree with Arch2 100%. The graphics are excellent, and the models are some of the best I have seen. The environments are large and arent confined to a 2 foot wide hallway. Over the first 30 mins you dont even have a gun as the story is introduced and draws you in. The music is added perfectly and it builds the tempo of the game to a fevered pitch when needed. It is the best game I have ever played. Far better than Halo2, but that may be due to the clunky console controls compared to a keyboard and a mouse.

Yeah, I've got the same problem with Halo 2. It's a great game (MP on XBOX Live is fun!) but the console controllers are so damn fiddly.
 
This game is by far the best game ever. The Graphics, surpass Doom 3 on the realizm level and the animations are extremely realistic. You feel like you ARE in City 17 and that you HAVE to fight for Earth's liberation. I have played for about 4 hours and am currently in Ravenholm, it is a pretty badass part
And gregory is INSANE rofl
The poision headcrab effects are cool ( you have to find out for yourself ) The magnum is fun as all hell too.
 
yep the game kicks ass....best game I have ever seen. You will have an awesome time playing it. Right now my Steam seems to be downloading HL:Source....well dinner time.....have fun...

The best by far game ever? You must not have played many games.
You feel like you are in City 17? What the hell is city 17? Were you born there to be an expert on city 17? I have to laugh at your imagination running wild.
The coolest moment in the game was Dog. That was about it. All 2 minutes of it. Done.
I'm, for one, disappointed. There's no story in this game. As much story as d3 had. Graphics are ok, and don't tell me they surpass D3's graphics in realism. What frigging realism? What's real about it?

Go play Deus Ex, System Shock 2, NOLF series. Hell, go play HL1.
Halo1 was a better single player game. Geez. Get your head out of valve's ass.
 
I have no idea what some of you are talking about, the airboat bit was awesome! I just reached the end of it and think it was the perfect length, slowly ramping you up in difficulty as it went along. Although the controls are a bit weird (when using reverse to brake and turning at the same time is so weird in the airboat!)

5 hours in, and I love it :D
The AI seems pretty good to me, they are using the cover, and teaming up! The duck and cover for grenades and generally seem pretty realistic. I do agree though, those Manhacks are incredibly annoying!

that was the biggest load of bullshit i've ever heard in my life of doing notin but games!

(you pretty much just started spuwing out oppisites!
the sky is red, air aint breathable, space is, god is evil, white is black)
 
Most of you are little kiddies that simply haven't played those great games I mentioned. This game doesn't bring much to the table. The hype has killed it for me. And this is DEFINITELY NOT THE BEST FPS GAME EVER.
Morons.
 
This is by a longsshot he best fps ever, everything is right, with this game I feel a kinda unnatural satisfaction and joy, but a warning
HL2=hard drug, but its a damn sweet one, oh oh oh.
