Whats so great about this game anyway?

A lot of current "older" gamers grew up playing it. It was a great game with a pretty nice story line.

A number of RTS games are inspired by it.

Starcraft is perfectly balanced, has a perfect soundtrack, has an excellent story, excellent campaign levels (except some Zerg campaign ones), multiplayer is very fun to play. Yes, I like it that much. We need more minerals by the way.

Almost correct! Except it has an excellent storyline with great characters (the Starcraft universe/atmosphere is second to no other RTS or game, except HL) and ALL RTS games after SC were inspired by it in one way or another.

I still think it's the perfect RTS.

It was my first RTS/online game. It also taught me how much AOL sucks. And, don't press alt-f4. Nearly all internet lingo I learned from that game.

Starcraft was a really good game, but its not perfect in any way. THe thing that made starcraft is that it was the first RTS to have three truly different sides. That siad, Company of Heroes is an example of an RTS that has done most things much better then starcraft except for balance and the campaigns.

Also, no game can compete with the glory that is Planescape: Torment except for maybe Deus Ex.
