im just curious to what people intend to play hl2 on. answer for what u intend to have on sept. 30th or when ever it comes out. if your running amd just vote at wut its rated.:dozey:

P4 3.0C, and a barton 2500. Was gonna order this week, but i decided not to, cause im getting an extension on my house and theres crap everywhere. No room to build two comps and put them somwhere. So in like a week or two.

AMD 1700@ 2. JIUHB 0302 (166/12)air
Epox 8rda+ 1.1
2/256 Corsair xms3500 (11-2-2-2)
ATI 9700pro
Antec 380ps
Sony 24/12/48
LaIn case
Sony e540/b 21.

do you want the amd users to post speed in mghz or the equal pr rateing?

this is getting silly, how many of you have upgraded because of HL2? Did you know the gamespot sewer video was running on a 2.0ghz? So i think ill just keep my $60 1.8ghz:dozey:

The computer I am on right now is an AMD athlon XP 1800+.

I hope I will have the money to upgrade, havent been working latley so I am not bringing in any money.

If I do have money to upgrade I will get an AMD 3000+ with the Barton core, 333 FSB etc etc.

Pentium 4 1.8Ghz 400Mhz FSB,
Sapphire 9600 Pro 128mb
512MB PC2100 DDR RAM

Duron 1.2, gettin a barton 2500 next paycheck

when i build my new system in a few weeks im getting Athlon XP 2800+ equviliant to a P4 2.8 Ghz...

Hunter, get a 2500 for half the price and easily oc it to 2800, you can do it on stock cooling. They both have a 333 FSB

no. I dont overclock if i dont have too. If i buy the 2800+ and im also getting 1024ddr and a 9800 pro 128, i wont have to overclock every game will run smooth as warm butter with great fps..even half life and im pretty sure doom3 will too. Once my parts get a litte older say in 12 months then i start to overclock, id probly smakc up my cpu and gpu clock speeds and throw in another fan. But if i have plenty of money to put a few extra dollars into the 2800+ with no problem...then its better then getting a 2500+ and oc'ing it. When in the end ill be able to over clock the 2800+ easier then the 2500+

Can someone tell me what my max FSB is, because I want to but a new CPU

Pc chips m810 socket a

FSB is over rated, it dosnt matter much you have if you have a CPU above 2.0 GHz.

simmo: It looks like it's 200mhz

http://www.baber.com/baber/411/pcchips_m810lmr.htm

And I wouldn't say a faster FSB is over-rated at all. I think the latest high-end chips certainly are but not the FSB speed. If you've got a faster FSB the info is getting to/from your cpu/memory quicker and that's a good thing. I was recently forced to upgrade (sounds funny but my old stuff died) to an AMD XP 2600 from a 2200 and normal operation hasn't been affected but I was very suprised by how much quicker load times were.

well i usally dont notice a difference. Kind of what i meant was , if you have a fast enough system, you wont really notice your high FSB speed, like someone who has 1024ddr ram and a 500Mhz FSB probly wouldnt notice much of a difference with 1024ddr and 800MHz fsb. its all good though.

Im getting an Athlon XP 2800+ with 333FSB speed, so for AMD thats like second best. I never really worry about FSB speed, after all if your buying a new cpu they usally have high fsb anyways.

damn!, the best I can have it a AMD Duron 1.3ghz! , will that be a good upgrade from a AMD Duron 1.1ghz ?

a faster front side bus is indeed overrated, but not by much. The key is to keep the FSB and your memory speed equal. If you do this, then your cpu cycles will line up with the ram cycles, which makes for much steady preformance.

It's noly equivenlent in name. A pentium 4 with an 800FSB smokes an AMD that's "equivilent"

my good, old duron 1 ghz. Will probably upgrade somewhen in winter (around christmas)

So true.

yea lord knows i need to pay an overpriced amount of money for an 800MHz FSB. Yay lots of more money with 1 second faster loading times.

your just a freaking intel fanboy.

Uhh actually the performance is a HUGE amount better when comparing the athlon "equivelants" to the hyper-threaded, 800FSB P4 chips...

I know it's overkill, but I just picked up a new Alienware pc.
3.06 Ghz
Nvidia GeForce FX 5900 Ultra 256 Mb Video Card
Audigy 2 Soundcard
Let me tell you, it's a hell of an improvement over my old 700Mhz pc.
Now I can play the E3 video without my computer dying from the effort.
Passing the time before HL2 comes out by playing through GTA-VC and Splinter Cell. Good times.

yeah, i guess HL2 will be playable on that machine, with all settings at low, of course.^^

what are you guys talking about when you say fsb speed makes little differance?

do you smoke crack?

Im thinking the same exact thing...

shit....why did you buy such expensive memory if your only going to run it at 166 (2700 would have done).

you can quite easily o/c a barton cored athlon to equal or better speeds than the top p4

I got both sticks for $165 with shipping.?
plus 2700 bites bud. Those speeds are just for gaming. IF i wanted to push my cpu and ram, believe me i could with the its stepping.
Iv ran (212/10),(200/10),(189/11),(176/11.5),(166/12)

so ya...
