Your experiences with F.E.A.R's AI!

More than a couple times the enemy soldiers have flipped tables and used them as cover.

AzzMan: Yeh, but that's probably scripted as in "when a soldier gets into this area, he does this animation and this object flips like this". Still awesome though.
Anyways, even if someone thinks the AI is predictable and shit, you have to agree it's far better than what we've used to. So in that case, the AI _is_ amazing. Personally I think that the AI was far from predictable, I found myself cursing "how the fck and when did they get there" in many places. Also, they know not to assault a place blindly, but like to stay camping in groups. Which makes sense, they dont have to go anywhere.
Btw, I just played the bit where you first get to shoot the ATC Security guards again, and I cant help feeling so bad for killing those guys. They are only doing their job, and they keep shouting "HEEEELP" and those painful and agonized screams when they die :(

Man, this game is so sweet. I love the AI and whatnot, but it seems pretty... easy. I'm playing through on hard, and after several hours I haven't died once. In fact, right now I have loads of ammo, full health and armor, and 10 health kits.

Are you using the slow-mo much? If you do, stop using it and fight the enemy without it. It can get really challenging when you are fighting fair. :)

Yeah, I agree.
One time I shot one of those guys right in his stomach with the shotgun, and he just got cut in half. It was pretty painful to see actually. :(
And it's not many games you actually feel sorry for the enemy you kill, but in F.E.A.R. you somehow do it. Probably because they are acting like real humans I guess.

The person who I felt sorry for most when I killed them was Paxton Fettel.

Play some battles over, they don't always flip the same thing over or use the same things for cover. One time a guy hid behind a reception desk and the next time he went to a couch (I was suppressed this time) and actually turned it 90 degrees so it wasn't just against the wall so it formed good cover.

Well I was fighting and a soldier hopped the rail and check this out, I didnt even do the slo mo and I did a flying kick and hit the guy mid air WOOOT. Then another guy tried to shoot me but I turned around and (literally) blew him apart with the shotgun... wow this games good back to playing

Same here, actually. I just unloaded at him like I'd done in the hallucinations, bullet straight through his head, and it connected, and I thought, shit....

God I am so getting this game. I love looking at good A.I.

But tell me - is there a console and level changer so you can replay the same level and look at the different scenarios?

not really a great ai moment but i got a lol when entering a series of office cublicles, i could hear enemies around me but couldnt see them, then a low ranking squad member i guess said ''he's coming'' or ''he's flanking'' or sumit and the squadleader then told him to literally '' STFU!!!!!!!!1''

:D

The AI in F.e.a.r., just like in Half-Life 2, is really dependant on node placement, and level layout. It seems F.e.a.r managed to get this done well, though.

No! That's something that really bugs me, because there's a bunch of parts in the game I want to show people, but there's no way to get back to that level. Luckily there's a level skip cheat
You enter the cheats through the chat

Luckily there's a save function

The AI truly is impressive, though a few minutes ago 3 or 4 guys rounded a corner in 3-4 second intervals, straight into my shotgun. It was just slomo-BOOM-slomo-BOOM-slomo-BOOM.

Yeah, I've heard that before. Funny!

I can't believe that just happened. I alt-tabbed out of the game just to post in this thread:

I come out of the side of a warehouse, and there's about four bad guys out there. To my left, is a trailer, a box in front of me, and an ally way leading away to the right. I get into a firefight, and end up moving to my left behind the trailer. (The door I came out of, is out of my view now, as is the ally way.) I flank those ****ers and waste em. But I hear foot steps on my right side. I quickly run around the trailer, only to see... nothing. I figure the guy ran either down the ally or through the door I came out of. (I was certain I had heard something.) I chose the ally, and bolt down it. It turns right, and ends up with a side enterence to the warehouse I was just in. I go through about two rooms, down a long hallway, and I heard more footsteps in front of me. I take a branch in the path, and wind up coming out of the warehouse from the door I originally left it in. (I was back in the opening, with the trailer on my left, the box in front of me, and the ally on my right.) Except, this time - I hear footsteps on my right, down the ally. I pull out my dual pistolas, and whip right. The guy was in the ally, running around towards the side enterence! I shot him in the back.

*Edit*

It's the area that Axyon is describing near the beginning of the game.

What had happened was I had heard him running down the ally, and I accidently followed him. I followed him down the ally, through the rooms, down the hallway, through the door, and back out to the ally where I had originally heard him. We were both going in circles. I was just a little faster, and shot him in the back. Most amazing AI I've ever whitnessed. =)

Yesterday I bought FEAR after reading about the AI, how they like to flank etc., so when one of the enemies ran away somewhere, I expected him to flank and just waited near the doorway for him to appear and kicked him in the face ;p

The AI is definatly the best thing about this game.

Just now I took out a room full of soliders and I hear this conversation down the hallway afterwards:
"Move in!"
"No ****ing way"!
