L4D, if I had to pick one

Only other games I could actually think of that I'd consider favorites are GTA4 and MGS4

I chose Left 4 Dead. Fallout was good too, but L4D is gonna be played more.

of the ones that i played, they were all very enjoyable in their own right
but nothing stands out for me tbh

GTA IV. Not only did I enjoy it, I thought it was a considerable step forward for gaming, possibly for every reason other people hated it (too realistic, too slow etc). As an open-world game it kind of failed in not giving the player enough things to do outside of the main plot and limited side activities, but when put up against the other sandbox titles this year (Far Cry 2 in particular) it still comes out on top.

Still have to try Prince of Persia, but I don't think it'll change my mind.

Also, Braid? Really? I enjoyed it as much as the next person (who enjoyed it), but it doesn't really make sense to put it up against full-price retail titles.

2008 was a 'bad gaming year' for me. Actually that isn't fair, I played plenty of superb games for the first time this year, it's just that only one of them was released this year: New Super Mario Bros, Super Mario World, Bioshock and Company of Heroes. I even replayed both Final Fantasy 8 and 9.

Fallout 3 is the only game from that list I've owned and played (Remind me why? An odd impulse gaming buy for me...) I had no money and a faulty PC for the first half of the year, didn't get any time or a new PC until late September. Since then I've been catching up with the titles that I missed out on last year because my Radeon 9800 Pro couldn't handle them, and there are still a few more I'll pick up before going for the 2008 catalogue. Which will be a lot cheaper, so I are a winner.

I've just started playing Fallout 3 and am surprised by how much i'm enjoying it. So far it's everything that was good about Oblivion (in a better setting with better combat), minus the crap bits. Weirdly enough - and this could well be affecting how much i'm enjoying the game in a positive way - it hasn't once struck me as a Fallout game. It doesn't feel like a sequal, rather a standalone game, and is all the better for it.

Little Big Planet, regardless of whether you can stomach the cuteness or have the patience to learn the tools, is quite obviously the most accomplished piece of software released since Mario Galaxy. Even if you don't particularly like the game - you could be dead inside and/or insane - it's hard not to marvel at sheer quality of it all. It's one of the very few titles out there that shows just how well made video games can be.

L4D is undeniably fantastic.

However, Lost Winds takes the crown this year. It killed the jaded gamer in me and returned me to a time when video games were pure escapism.

probably Fallout 3 ...civilian came running up to me yelliung that the raiders had wired him with explosives ..I attempted to disarm but failed ...the civilian yelled "oh god what did you do" right before he blew up into meaty chunks

also I end every play session with a variation of this

lbp may have just jumped into the lead!

I haven't even been able to play Clear Sky since I bought it on release. My laptop sucks too much.

Would have to say GTA 4, seen as the only other game I played what was made this year is Fallout 3. D:

Tough call tbh. Farcry 2 I like a lot, and L4D is the shit when it comes to multiplayer co-op, but simply because I'm digging the game world I'm going for GTA 4. It's just a more polished version of the previous games, but it's amazed me how it sucks you into the environment and the characters. Even though I'm not finished I'm looking forward to what Rockstar are working on next.

I haven't bought any games this year, but the L4D demo was pretty cool, so I voted for that.

I didn't like Fallout 3 at first, but after i hijacked your house and played for a while I really started to enjoy it.

Glad to hear. Personally, I thought I would HATE it right up until reviews and gameplay videos came out.

Yes, because they'd be missing out on .... um ... yeh, well .... oooh there's .... no, that's on console too ....

I'll always choose PC gaming for online fps, but it's lacked decent exclusives for a looooooooong time.

The majority of Turn Based Strategies. A bunch of non-J RPGs. Almost all MMOs. Some RTSes. Indie games.

Not many though. I love turn based rts, but can't think of anything of note recently (and nothing better than Valkyrie Chronicles). The rpgs appear on consoles and even some of the bigger rts (although arguably with a crippled control method). Take away DoW/CoH and WoW and there's not much left.

GTA 4; the only other game I have played that is on that list is Fable 2.

Left 4 Dead, because it's the only game I bought this year. :(

Hmmm, well, I'll have to play more FO3 and L4D before I can try to make a final call, but so far it'd be GTA4. Let me first say that it's a game about which I'm deeply ambivalent--largely because I was foolish enough to attempt 100% completion, and utterly sickened myself of the gameworld. That said, the first 50 hours were awesome and very rarely boring or repetitive. You can't say all the missions were top notch, but the ones that were hit it out of the park. Three Leaf Clover is one of the all-time greats, as has allready been said. Most importantly, there were times in the game when I genuinely felt a deep sense of guilt, even disgust at my own actions. I wouldn't have thought a game, especially one like GTA could've effect such a catharsis.

Fallout 3. Recently finished up pretty much everything in the game clocking about 55 hours. Amazing game, looking forward to the DLC and new achievements.

Of the games on that list, it's too hard to choose between Brawl, L4D, and GTA4.

Therefore I choose Grand Brawl 4 Dead 4.

L4D, followed closely by Fallout 3 and GTAIV. I've played a fair share of Brawl as well but I still like the N64 Smash the best.

Left 4 Dead, because i don't think i've played any other games that were released this year.
