What was everyone's first online game that you played? Mine was the origional Quake, loved the game, and still do! :)

Starcraft demo...I was so amazed at how much was included in that demo. About 40 hours worth of single player(I played the single player for about a month, a few hours every day) and then an awsome multiplayer which I played for about 2 weeks until I bought the game.

I can't remember!! All I remember is the damn book-learning from school!
Mighta been doom2.

Seriously though, doom, quake and starcraft will probably be tops. Mebbe Duke as well.

The StarCraft demo, same as Foxtrot.
Oh, the memories... ;(

Edit: It might've actually been the Quake 3 demo, on my brother's system when it first came out.. not sure anymore

StarCraft demo was good. It was basicly the actual game. :p

Minus Zerg and Protoss.. although there were those demo TCs that allowed you to play as a buggy Zerg

Delta Force (the first game).

The best experience I've ever had in gaming, hands down.

Duke Nukem 3D. I played it modem-to-modem. A bit later (late 1997) I started with Quake, playing regular deathmatch (with or without teams) and Teamfortress.

Boom boom?

It was HLDM for me. :)

counter-strike in 1.1 ...still play it now ...anytime before that I played the web-based strategy planetarion ;p

diablo 2, age of empires 2 are also very good old games I play online :)

Unreal was one of the first I tried, not sure if it was the absolute first mp game I played. So long ago.

Starcraft demo... :) (Had to have AOL running in the background...) Oh yeah, and it took all day to download it... all 30 MB...

Although, I did play the Age of Empires demo on a LAN before that...

Half-Life was the first game I ever played online.

I still remember my very first game, it was on that map with all the boxes and a courtyard that was covered by one of those mounted guns. I had like a 1000 ping and sucked royaly.

I played the original doom online once. My first true experience though was a hole in the wall called NetGamer where I played my first game of CS through a LAN. cs_assault, to be exact. despite the fact that neither me nor my friends had played it before, i kicked major butt, mostly because i'm one of those people who can learn a game in 5 minutes and then make everyone else look stupid as I clean their clocks. :D

edit: i tried it online but at the time my defective 56k on my home computer would bring up awesome pings that went from 400-4000. so i went to net gamer. a lot.

I played Quake III. I fell in love with first-person shooters afterwards thanks to Quake III.
I played a multiplayer game, I thought I was playing a bot-match but I really had gone to multiplayer and found out it was multiplayer when some guy joined in, in which his name didn't belong to any of the bots I assigned and also, the pause button just gave me the menu, the actual game didn't pause.

First one must have been C&C Red Alert and mabye unreal and doom

LAN: Doom/Descent(sp?)/ROTT
Online: Quake1

It's pretty sad when I look back and realize that I have been stuck on dial-up for SO ****ING LONG. MOTHER ****ER I HATE THIS BASTARD CONNECTION.

Team Fortress Classic.

I had been playing SP games for about ten years and everybody was telling me how much fun this mod was. So I tried it and then played it for like 2 years straight. :)

ROTT = rise of the triad = my first mp experience, and probably my fondest. i used to make wonderful psychotic maps for that game and spend hours playing them.

Starcraft was the first game I ever had the joy of playing online with.

quake 2.

That was also the first shootemup i played.
I found it amazing that you could actually play against eachother like that, not split-screen like @ consoles :)

Man, that's going back a bit. I remember playing the Shareware version of that to death which came in the shareware section of my Terminal Velocity cd.

I started with starcraft, then evolved to diablo 2 and soon after that when i got dsl i played half life and all the mods online.

I first got into pc gaming sometime in 1999

Quake 2 -> Starcraft -> Unreal -> HL -> Quake -> Quake 3 -> ... starts to get blurry ... alot

HL and its mods.

It wasn't untill RTCW that I really got into clan games tho. Since that died i'm dabbling in ET, but it isn't as good a competition shooter.

It's time for the next big thing - hopefully TFC2 will live up to my high hopes :)
