Your funny experiences during the Half Life series

Played HL2 with a friend completely drunk last night. It was hilarious trying to run away from the Antlion Guards and the Gunships.

My funniest experience was when fighting in City 17 tunnels after Alyx is taken by combine. There combine soldier was eaten by barnacle, it looked so stupid, soldier was firing barnacle while running straight into barnacle's tongue *Death*

i really enjoy feeding barnacles. i feed them headcrabs, crows, ect.

but citizens and alyx are the most fun things to feed to it. they start groaning as they are sucked up and get eaten. then it consumes them for a while, and finally vomits out some bones and a skull..

I always try to save the birds from barnacles. Like that crow near the start of the canals; I always snipe the thing out so that the bird can fly away safely.

I'm not really bothered about the other characters. They can get "barnacled" if they so wish.

It's not the funniest thing but in Gmod 10 i spawned barnacles in a circle on some ceiling.
And then a fast zombie nicely placed in the middle of the circle.
So he/she (it) sees me and starts to run at me. then it howls and jumps at me only to get grabbed by a barnacle.
And since npc's turn into ragdolls after being grabbed by a barnacle, the zombie's limbs were flinging around. The banacle next to it caught it by the arm or leg or whatever and started pulling it up aswell. And so on it was cartwheeling in the air, being passed on by barnacles. And it just stayed there, until i killed some of the barnacles.:frog:

How can you kill Eli Vance in Nova Prospect? I tried that turret trick but it didnt work...

When at a red letter day, when kleiner opens the door to the teleporter, I somehow managed to get on the lift just outside the door. Kliener tried to get on, he spazzed killing himself and me.

Well mine was during the transportation in the beginning, when you spawn in Dr. Wallace Breen's office, you noclip then kill him lol. funnest thing ever lol. :sniper:

This isn't overly funny, partly because it made me quite sad LOL. I spawned Dr Brean in front of the drink machine Alyx usually opens for you in Red Letter Day. She struggled for a while and then died :|

When your in Breen's office, can you noclip through the wall and fall all the way down?

Yea, but i mean how long is the fall anyway. It's probably a skybox...they are not making the entire city in detail even though you don't see it.
I was just wondering how high is the fall IF you do noclip out.

It has to be the height of the citadel level or atleast to some point of it, since you ride that pod up to the top.

Noclipping never works for me while I'm in the pod. :( All it does is make me turn around a little more to the side and get stuck like that in the pod.

I'll have to try it, thanks!

Also, I tried to bring a turret with me to shoot at Eli, but at the part where Mossman is still in the room, my hubby was like, "Noclip through there and shoot her!" so I tried (of course you cant kill her). The scene was going by and I was like, "Oh no, I need the turret!" So instead of just turning noclip off and running around the door and grabbing it, I tried noclipping back to the other side, but it's all fast and willy-nilly and I was like "Noooo" and the door to the room closed and I failed. :c

Edit: OMG I just remembered another funny thing. It was at the part in Highway 17 where there's the little hill you go up to get the crossbow. I crouched down and zoomed in so I could get a closer look at the combine coming out of the dropship. Well, in one spot, there's three of those little milk crates. One combine dude came running at them at full speed, tripped over them and died. I was like, "..." and then had a good laugh. Still cracks me up to this day, but hasn't happened any other time!

In HL2 EP2, you've got to kill 2 Antlion Guardians sometime. I killed the normal one right when it was about to hit me with it's head. Well.. instead of hitting me it fell with the "face" in the dirt like in a classic cartoon... oh how I laughed. I must have been laughing on that dumb shit for at least 5 minutes.

Too bad it's not as funny on the picture. If you had seen it in-game, you would have cracked up so hard.

No funny things. HL2 is serious.

Although I believe I killed someone from standing on them. Which wasn't supposed to happen.

Edit: Thread ressurection and a half!

Bieng killed by my own grenade. I was on one health when I threw it, and the soldier threw it back (this was episode two). The grenade hit me and I died. :|

Wait... soldiers throw grenades back...?

Yes. It's fun. If theres any way to make grenades won't explode so fast, you could make them play hot potato with you. Man that would be awesome.

They are relatively slow. I mean, I often found myself rushing to a grenade, and yet it still took an age to explode.

I thought soldiers only threw grenades back in scripted sequences in EP2.

I've tested the grenade throwing-back thing but none of the soldiers ever do it for me.

In Episode Two? You tried it on different difficulty settings?

Not funny per se, but quite awesome: When I played HL2 for the second time, I had no more expectations for the companion characters and just allowed them to die as they saw fit. However, after I played through the strider-battle outside Overwatch Nexus, to my surprise one of them was still alive. I assumed that she'd die immediately in the tunnel where the strider comes out, but she would have none of that. She followed me all the way to the ruined building and made herself useful by shooting down the flying cameras, while I took care of the strider. That made me rethink my opinions about the game's AI.

Second, a bit funnier NPC event came a bit later in the sequence where you must take down attacking Combine forces on a square while Alyx is trying to open the gate. I managed to get through that with majority of my companions alive! The game apparently hadn't expected that since right after the gate they ceased to follow me and stood still unconcerned about the Combine troops left on the other side of the gate or Alyx getting kidnapped. Low morale those people have...

The most visually comical scene was in Ravenholm, where I shot a zombie with a brick and he crashed through a window behind him and remained hanging there, his legs still barely inside.

Lobbed a log at a Hunter, knocking it back; Strider was coming up behind it, and the Hunter ran forward--Strider then kicked the log into the back of the Hunter, killing it and sending it flying.

I have noticed soldier throwing back the granade during white forest base infiltration. At the top of the secondary silo you have to sneak to the room next to the control room. The blast door between those rooms is not fully closed and you are able to throw granade in. It will be thrown back provided you havent killed all the soldiers. Scripted, but pretty fun and unexpected.

EP1, Last chapter. Shooting a Magnum in the face of a CP, made him flying backwards (and doing a backflip) ON a Explosive Barrel. His ''friends'' somehow shot the barrel, and the next moment the CP was flying once again. This time he landed in the back of a truck.

Only experience I've noticed. Annoying, though, when you turn your back like "yeah, that's them owned" :p

About the soldiers throwing back the grenades, of course they do. Funny to send him back with the gravgun just after the Combine Advisor. And don't they already in HL2 or HL2E1?...

So, my funny/weird experiences... The last time I played HL2, I was glad to finally take down the chopper, and it crashed right on me, and I died. Quite unexpected.

But I had a strange experience the last time I played Ep1... So it's not very funny, but quite weird and unexpected.

In the White Forest Inn map, the car was stopped a few meters from the transparent blue wall the Combine use to block the road (I don't know how I could call it), and when I disabled it, I found myself unable to get back to the car. Impossible. So, the only thing to do was to I spawn another one, and I also spawned the HL2 buggy, just for fun. Then, I when I entered to my new spawned car, Alyx ran to the buggy and stopped. I tried several times and was suddenly able to make move the stuck car (so the 'actual' car). Then I got back inside it and Alyx got inside the other car (so the second yellow car I spawned). Then I told myself, 'Ok, you want to go with this one, it's ok', and when I got into it, she got out of it!

So as I new that when you go the next map on foot and without her, you start in the car and with her beside you, and when to the next map with the original yellow car, on my own. Then, when the next map was loaded, she wasn't beside me. I got out of the car and I saw something in the tunnel.

You see that Alyx makes comment about it and doesn't really know how to position herself! When the cars are in this position they're just frozen, and I can make them move with a knock with the crowbar or the gravgun, but they remain frozen in the next position.

Same here, sh'es quite confused.

Funny how she reacts quite realistically!

In my several attempts to go on, sometimes the buggy was there, sometimes not. Here you see the hotrod and the buggy together (I don't remember where Alyx was).

ep2outland100018ku5.jpg

Then when you press E you can actually drive it and the other cars stay behind little by little. But here I'm driving one car and Alyx is the other. So when I could at last separate all the cars, and went back to the car when Alyx was, and to my relief she didn't leave it when I entered it. Fortunately it's the last map with the car so I don't know what would have happened in the next map. So everything went back to order, to my relief. I wonder why and how this happened. Funny, the laws of the Source engine physics...

Also, when I drive, it's also fun to kill someone or a zombie with the car when they stay on the engine a little while. Very realistic.

I also love this ambiguous one (with noclip):
