Sound is really hard to objectively review, so I think it tends to get a sort of 'average of the rest' kind of score. I can't remember any reviews where a game got slated for everything else but had great sound, or vice-versa.Originally posted by iamaelephant
How do you figure something that isnt special deserves a 9/10?

My calculations lead me to predict that Half-Life 2 will receive a score of no less than 3pi+0.53 (approximately 9.9547779607693797153879301498385).
I am not at liberty to divulge the formula used to calculate said score. It is an industry secret known only by the top game developers, like Valve, and is the key to their success.
I can only hope that the hacker didn't get his hands on the formula... or there could be a wave of so many "perfect 10" games that it would cut Valve's profits to nearly nothing.

On the score ... we don't know that HL2 is going to be any good at all. I really hope it is, but there are loads of games that looked impossibly great until the real thing/demo appeared.
Well that's ridiculous. As a reviewer, one rates a game on its relative merits and NOT on external factors like release date problems.Originally posted by herbster
They have a great game, but this fiasco with ts release means I wouldnt score them excellently. Just thinking of it makes me feel quite irrate.
