I just want to get a figure of how many people connect through broadband and how many through Dial up still.

I am beginning to find an end to any hope of broadband development in my area. I am curious if any of you know of a way to find out any possible development plans for an area? I've called Verizon but all I get is lamo customer service aholes who have no clue.

I have checked that dslreports.com and they say my CO is wired for DSL. I am not sure how reputable that site can be though several years ago it did say my CO wasn't wired.

Even with this I have gone to several ISPs but have come out empty handed, no one can service my location.

I am not sure how a company, say Verizon, determines whether to service an area or not. I figure they judge by how many houses there are between an actual usable distance from the CO. I live maybe less than 2 miles from my CO and there are probably around maybe 30+ houses within 3 miles. Is that a good margin?

I feel a void in my life. It kind of sucks when you build a $1800 computer and you can only play single player games and there havn't been to many good ones lately.

I heard if you just keep calling about it and have your friends call then theyll hook it up for hope of popular demand. (internet searches don't count).

dsl is great now that it's working. They had to come out to my house and redo shoddy connections a few times, but my problems were rare. I get 3mb down and 2 up, pretty well full speed all the time. I ping 50 across the continental US, so it's fairly decent.

My line at uni is nuts though. I'm as fast as the internet lets me. I had a 9mbit download from nvidia.com once.

I have cable but I don't know exactly what my download/upload speeds are. Anyone know how to check? I have Comcast cable and it's a really nice connection, I don't lag in games or anything and my downloads can go pretty fast, but I'd love to know what they are exactly.

Edit: comcast.net says 4mbps but it doesn't specify download/upload.

10mbit cable at home

some ludicrous amount at work (+1000mbit I think, total.)

cable, don't know what speed but I never lag and ping low.

I'm on 0.5mbit adsl, soon to be 2mbit! Can't wait till i can upgrade!

go to numion

do the test a couple of times to find the average. make sure u are not download ing anything while the test is running. if you have more than 100 kps, u have broadband connection.

my score is 268 kps while my school has 543 kps. and i use Yahoo! DSL

Don't expect your Upload to be that nice compared to download.

I would love a really speedy connection at home, would be so cool. Its a shame that ADSL is still in the early stages here, I think the fastest available residential connection is 4mbit. Not too sure though.

The highest I can get in my paticular area is 2mbit at the moment. Should be getting that speed soon, which will be ace.

I feel sorry for teh poor person on dialup. I was stuck on that for years before DSL came out in the UK in my area.
