my earliest memories are of me singing into a pen imitating Tom Jones (my mom and aunt were big fans of the Tom Jones show ..in retrospect it probably had something to do with tight fitting slacks <shudder> )

musical progression over the years:

beatles/stones (in the 80's ..I'm not that old)
60's psychedelic
70's hard rock/heavy metal/arena rock
80's heavy metal
80's punk, ska, new wave, alternative/college radio
80's new heavy metal
90's metal/grunge
90's electronica, jazz, 50's ska, classical, pretty much everythig except R & B, soul, pop and new country
2000's news/talk radio, 80's retro, electronica, podcasts

First band I ever liked was The Beatles, then I liked a bunch of generic rock (Fuel, Static-X, Rammstein) until I turned 14 and went full-on 60's-70's when I started listening to a lot of Bob Dylan, now I like a mix of both, I enjoy Dylan, Donovan, but also a little Filter and Wolfmother every now and then

I'll do mine in age as it's far easier.

7-10: Lightning Seeds, David Bowie, stuff on ''Classic Rock Vol 4!'' types of CD's, Peter Gabriel, Pink Floyd, Yes.

11-13: Metallica, Korn, Linkin Park, Papa Roach (''nu-metal'' and stuff) plus Deftones, Incubus (whatever the hell you want to call them)

13-15: In Flames, Machine Head, Shadows Fall, Slayer, Testament, Destruction, (much more metal stuff)

15-16: At the Drive-In, Explosions in the Sky, Mogwai, Primus, Anti-Flag, Dead Kennedys, Pennywise (alot of hardcore punk, minamilist post-rock and post-hardcore or whatever..)

17-now: Everything and anything. For the most part, electronica, post-rock, post-hardcore, sludge/doom metal, ambient.

I like to think of myself now quite broad, and I frown upon myself when I was around 12 to early 15 years of age as I was narrowminded as ****. But seriously, these days I'll try anything. Obviously I still delve into stuff from previous years. Pink Floyd and Yes are still favourites and when I go through my folders of Anti-Flag and Dead Kennedys I'm still very open to listen to it, just not as in much doses as I use to.

I couldnt do it that way cuz it's take me a few hours to cover every band/musical style

I forgot progressive rock (rush, yes, elp)

Yeah, mine is fairly straight forward, the bands listed as the most common favourites of the age. There were many others I listened to.

I'll do mine in age as well..

7-11: Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Elvis
11-14: Terrible dance-pop wank, Effiel 65, Vengaboys etc
15-17: Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Papa Roach, all that nu-metal toss
17-18: Mostly pop-dance/RnB of the time, but started getting into indie, like The Libertines
18-present: Indie mainly, bit of electro, in fact, anything BUT metal pretty much.

My Last.fm

you had better taste at 7 then you did at 15 badger

any, i started listening to music only a few years ago, at first i only listened to the RHCP( i didn't understand why everything else really sucked) then i discovered indie and classic rock simultaneously, now i listen to a bit of everything.

Haha, I'm back into most of the stuff I listened to when I was younger, got Ziggy Stardust on now :p

It was my parent's music, so at 15 I went through the 'eww I'm not listening to THAT' phase. Silly I know.

rap
smooth jazz
trip hop
80's
electronica, chillout techno
IDM
60's rock and indie

Hmmm Ziggy, all of his works from the 70's and early 80's are amazing, bowie is a genius.

Pop > Rock > 70s Pop/Rock > Rock > Indie

Varied. :|

But to be honest, I'll listen to anything and everything but metal. I hate metal with a passion.

1 - 15 = Classic Rock
15-18 = "TODAYS BEST HITS" bullshit.
18-rest of my life = Class Rock/Techno

Blame my dad

-classical (when i was pretty young)
-rap (well, eminem, when i was like 13)
-weened off of rap by realising that the aerosmith song sampled by eminem was the best part of the song he used it in. found bands like linkin park and limp bizkit
-started finding old metal bands like maiden and got into them quite a bit (mostly just maiden and priest though)
-started finding old bands randomly, not sure if i can remember how, but that got me into rock in general

i tend not to keep to genres though

the songs ive been giving the most play atm are venus in furs - john cale, common people - pulp, some beatles, some floyd, some donovan

From earliest to latest:
-Dance music (for some god forsaken reason) Aged 11
-Linkin Park (still a fan) Aged 12
-Lost Prophets (still a fan) Aged 12
-A variety of heavy metal bands (lost interest in about a month) Aged 13
-Sum 41 (not a fan anymore) Aged 13-15
-Green Day (not a fan anymore) Aged 14-16
-Metallica (still a fan) Aged 15
-Muse (instantly fell in love with the music and still currently worship them) Aged 15
-Queens of the Stone Age (still a fan) Aged 16
-Started appreciating the old legends of guitaring like Jimi Hendrix's work and Eric Claptons work, got into blues rock. Aged 18

So I like a wide variety of music really

Let's see..

5-8 Weird Al, Barenaked Ladies
8-11 Whatever was on the radio at the time (probably grunge)
11-15 absolutley nothing, a little bit of red hot chilli peppers
15-17 grunge: Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden
today: Grunge with some other 90's alternative mixed in

7-10 Oasis
10-15 Whatever was popular. Nirvana mainly if i remember.
15-18 Anything from Incubus to James Blunt to U2 lol
18-20 Incubus, Placebo, U2 and more chilled bands.
Today 3 Doors Down, The Fray, Staind, Incubus, Switchfoot, Red Guitar, All American Rejects, Dire Straits, Chris Rea, U2, even Miles Davis (Jazz). So as you can see, my tastes are going back through the years really, more into older, chilled rock. god im getting OLD! 20 is such a bad age!

More of a general outline:
Age12: Ska/Punk--->Highschool: Classic Rock---->HigherSchool: Country/Folk---->EvenHigherSchool: Alt Rock---->College: Obscure Alt Rock :D

Now, those all represent when I picked up and really started delving into a genre. I haven't actually dropped a genre or anything like that, even if I have dropped bands. Its more about grabbing the best stuff from wherever I find it.

9-12 i listened to coolio gangstas paradise, and wrestling theme songs

12-16 slipknot, korn, static x, system of a down

17-18 still slipknot, korn, static x.. then came cky, mushroomhead, afi, tool, staind, nirvana.

19-20(now) i've opened up to new bands, found out about a lot of good nonmainstream stuff, black metal, folk.. Opeth, Immortal, Moonsorrow, Summoning, Stratovarius, Children of bodom, Death, dark tranquility, burzum, bloodbath, amon amarth...

i'm so glad i found out about good bands...

Basically shit shit shit shit shit shit, then I turned 16 :)

I used to listen to anything mainstream, pretty much everything I saw on MTV.

Up until I turned 15, then I started getting into rock... Come 16, I was introduced to metal, listened to mostly Fear Factory and Tool.

Now I'm 19, I still listen to these two bands quite often.
