Your thoughts on extinct languages.

The English language however doesn't stay constant the way French does. The French enforce rules on the French language to stop it changing but the English language changes all the time. If someone spoke English from a 1000 years ago, you wouldn't understand a word of it.

I'm sure there's a really amazingly good reason why we should preserve dying languages, but I can't be bothered to think of one.

So... I don't care. Let 'em burn!

lol absinthe. Since everyone chose to ignore my post, fine..I say we all learn ebonics, cause sh*t homie aint like you can speak no english anyways.

i mentioned my main reason, since i'm more of a unitarian.

what i meant with technical point of view was, that we keep holding on with different languages primarily because of emotion not because of reason.
IMO when linguists/historians (or most people, really) get emotional about a language dying out, it's usually because of the reason I stated - ie. massive loss of potentially important info - not blind sentimentality...

Tell her to stop being a lazy bastard and complete her words properly. For most of us it takes the same amount of time to type 'you' as it does 'u'. In fact me trying to punch out 'u' in place of 'you' would completely break my flow of concentration and actually take me more time!

I once corrected every single mistake in her 2-page long letter, right down to the use of commas. It doesn't made a bit of difference guys, her brains are inert.
