Your thoughts on Far Cry

While the game was very pretty, and I was excited about it at first, it became a bit repetitive for me. It really could have done with a top notch story (the story and voice acting it had were really pretty bad), and a bit more to change up the gameplay. That's not to say it's bad, it wasn't, but it became tedious and it certainly had nothing in it I'd call next-gen (besides the beautiful technology behind it).
 
Im on the boat level, it seems pretty good so far except for the physics which completly suck. Btw...can anyone tell me where on the box the multiplayer cd key is? (yes im an idiot :D)
 
My opinion of Far Cry? Absolutely. Amazing.

HL2 has its work cut out.
 
now that I've played FarCry, HL2 just doesnt seem as "next-gen" as it used to.

amazing graphics, amazing physics, awesome ai (they try and flank you and stuff) incredible attention to detail.. great sound too, just an all around awesome game and one of the best single player experiences ive had since hl (although not topping it)
 
My thoughts...
Bad framerates;Although I do play on 1600x1200;)
Oh well...I'll be satisfied with Painkiller in which I get 55 Framerates on 1600x1200.
 
I disagree, Far Cry's only made my thrist for HL2 even greater. I mean, Far Cry's story is mediocre, the AI is great and so is the gameplay, but HL2's gameplay looks as though it will totally kick its ass with the help of the story in it (hopefully it'll be great) and the AI (If its as dynamic as Valve say, here's hoping :d). Besides those monsters in Far Cry don't stand up to the almighty Strider. And the physics are no comparison to HL2 either.

It will totally rock
 
We have been all united by Half-Life 2, halflife2.net was started 'cause of Half-Life 2.
 
HL2 will still pwn ;) but man... FarCry sure does kick ass. Don't care what anyone else says, it's just damned fun!

yeah.. whatever the price is, it is.. my point is, if i want games such as HL2, Doom3, Stalker (and other titles which i can't remember right now), i can't be spending cash on other games as well.. regardless of a game being 10 bucks or 50 bucks.

i hope im not the only one that spends wisely around here.. then again, most posters here are young and probably rely on parents for their games.. -its a different story for me.

I don't think physics really need to be implemented more than they are in Far Cry. They were just fine for me. What I would really like to see is the ability to topple over trees with an explosion or to be able to damage a building no matter where you shoot it (with explosives). I want to see bullet ballistics (ricochets, bullet penetration, etc.)

All in due time :)
 
There is one tree that you can send flying with a bullet. I made a whole forest of them in the editor. :D And there already is bullet penetration. I shot about 5 guys through wood in the whole game. And IonGorilla, are you on the moon? The physics in FC are perfect. Or are you judging this because the barrels don't have buoancy? Well they do, but the barrels are full of oil. Go figure. :O :D
 
Nah the physics aren't perfect, their really good but they're probably on par with Max Payne 2's physics. Great but still has glitches, like the "star-jump". When you blow up a guy with a grenade in MP2 they fly away in that star-jump pose, Far Cry does the same thing. Needless to say HL2 owns them both in the physics department. Mainly because from what i've seen the ragdoll's don't suffer from that Star-jump thing and they just look so cool and fluent. And the manipulator of course
 
I think Far Cry is a great game, I had no expectation for it when I first saw it. But when I tested the demo, I thought it was pretty cool actually.

So I bought the game and it's one hell of a game, very good physics, pretty good AI, fantastic graphics and draw distance, good sounds and... Scary when you encounter the mutated-freaks for the first time. :)

Half-Life 2 will probably defeat this game when it comes to physics, story and characters (maybe something else too). The graphics are nice, but not as impressive as Far Cry though.
But anyway, personally I will probably like Half-Life 2 better.
 
Far Cry's story is like a really well made Cheesey action movie, Its Brilliant :)
 
Well, then it's a good thing that they are making a movie.

Damn, I hope Valve never does a Half-Life movie by Uwe Boll. I can almost guarantee you the FC movie is gonna suck big time, like House of the Dead done by Boll.
 
Yeah, it would be a better movie if it wasn't Uwe Boll. He can surprise you, though. Did you see he is doing Alone in the Dark and Bloodrayne too?
 
house of the dead sucked, sucked big time. if they get the same director they should be shot. but resident evil was suprisingly good. i think they shouldget sam raimi, he's good with monsters and gore. farcry is way too beautifull and fun of a game be done poorly.

AI isn't that great, the graphics dont impress me much, and it gets boring waay too quickly

I suggest buying a new videocard. The Voodoo2 doesn't cut it anymore. :rolleyes:

For bullet penetration I was talking about how a high enough caliber gun could tear through trees, barrels, light boxes, that sort of thing, not just people (and leave the proper enter and exit holes). I didn't know about that certain tree that you used. Which one is it?
 
I will tell you later. I do not have access to the editor at the moment. But, the tree flies like a mile unrealistically, so be prepared to laugh.

What game out now has better graphics than FarCry? I cant think of any.
 
Hehe...was just reading Gamespy's review where they call it the absolute best looking shooter they have ever seen.
