Your Top 3 Game Devs

1. VALVe
2. Rockstar North
3. Infinity Ward

Valve
BioWare

Number 3 I'm not so sure of, maybe Bethesda or GSC Game World.

Not counting developers who aren't around anymore, like Looking Glass.

1. Valve - high level of polish and community response, with a mean sense of humor to boot.

2. Rockstar - Can consistently count on them to make great games, with a mean sense of humor to boot.

3. Capcom - Games with a Capcom label on it always get my interest, but they don't consistently make my hyped list.

Contemporary:
Valve
Firaxis
Bioware

Capcom - Their fan service is unparalleled. I'm also stoked that the number one fan suggestion for their next game is Megaman Legends 3.

Blizzard - Despite their money-hungry disposition, Blizzard is still focused on quality. Consider that Warcraft 2 and Diablo 2 still have online support, including patches for the latter.

Naughty Dog - Probably the most legitimate development house out there. These guys consistently put out quality games with each new release without the cockiness of a lot of current developers. It was recently revealed that they are a sponsor for an animal shelter in California, and they did so without any PR intentions at all. This solidified my respect for them.

That is just plain wonderful. And they thank competitors in their games. And they share code with other devs. They are terrific and SO talented. 10 AIAS awards for Uncharted 2?? AWESOME. It deserves all that and more.

1.) Valve - They've developed the games and platforms I play the most by far

2.) Bioware - They're consistent and only improve their game structures... can't wait for the new Star Wars MMO

3) Relic or Blizzard - Blizzard really hasn't been overly innovative as much as feeding off of a few high quality franchises, but I love them so I can't complain. Relic has been churning out some amazing RTS games and though I'm not the biggest RTS fan, they've been so innovative that I Have to commend them.

There are other good games by good developers but I don't think any stand out over these three in sheer consistent top-of-the-chart games.

Edit: It's strange to me seeing people pick favorites over a few decent games. I think the true sign of a good company is to have a catalogue of high quality games and very few (or none at all) dog games. That's why I have Valve at the time. They pump out high quality games that are fun from every angle and highly innovative. They even expanded upon this by embracing their community in mods and making use of feedback... not to mention the millions they sacrificed making DLC free. I don't think there are too many developers out there that can meet those criteria.

To me, and in my humble opinion, it's the exact opposite. In Valve's catalog there are a few games I really liked: HL1, HL2 and Portal. Episodes were disappointing to me and I don't like multiplayer games at all. It's all a matter of personal opinion. I'm still waiting for something good from Valve since 2007. Conclusion: Valve is not the company for me.

Anyway three of my favs(not sure if top 3, I suck at deciding what's absolute favourites for me etc)

Strategic Simulations Inc - For bringing a great deal of great RPGs and especially strategy games to the PC back in the late 80s and early 90s, for making the first good DnD-based RPGs for PC, thus paving the way for Baldur's Gate and other DnD based RPGs.

Microprose - I don't think I need to explain this to most proper gamers.. Who can forget the company that brought gaming community countless great simulations and of course, the truly awesome X-Com games!

Valve - Brought me great single-player games like HL2, HL2 Episode 2 and great multiplayer games like TF2 and L4D/L4D2.

Valve; for their consistency of flawless brilliance when it comes to customer service and on-going support.

Bioware
; for their stories and atmosphere, as well as losing myself in their worlds almost every time.

Relic; for their amazing RTS games. Company of Heroes is un-matched, as is Dawn of War (as well as the sequel)

I hope you accidentally forgot to mention Homeworld by accident..:hmph:

1. Rockstar North
2. Bioware
3. Valve

Two and three could easily be switched ... the thing is that Valve barely makes any games and the only recent ones (L4D 1/2) were a bit shit. If Valve could pump out Portals and Half-Lifes at the rate Bioware pumps out massive RPGs, they'd be higher.

If Red Dead Redemption comes out and is as awesome as it looks then I may have to remove the "North" from my first choice and just let it be all of Rockstar.

Do I get something special for never playing it?

Didnt even know Relic did Homeworld as a result. I know its supposed to be up there with the best though.

Valve
Bioware
Tie between DICE, Ubi Montreal and Sony

They didn't develop the original X-Com though, that was Mythos Games.

True, though afaik Microprose was involved in the development of the original from the getgo, they weren't the main team by any means but they did have a few people overseeing the development of the game iirc.

But yes, Mythos was the main developer. Still love Microprose though, they did a great RPG called "Darklands", that game had such an awesome character generation system!

Heh, Bioware getting a lot of fans here. Also some game devs I don't know about. Time to research them and play their games.
