1. G-Man (lovely)
2. Kleiner (nice nerdy scientist voice)
3. Barney (nice bloke)
4. Female City 17 Combine announcer (sounds suitably monotone, alien and everywhere)
5. Eli Vance (great textured old voice)

I just love the speaking voice of the G-Man, the way he says "Rrrise and shhine, Mr. Freeeeman", and the bit at the end when he goes "In the meeantimme..." LOVELY!

Note that g-man and barney is voiced by the same person.

1. Dr. Breen - great acting by Mr. Culp, it really brings Breen to life, perfect coupled with the actual text that Breen has. Especially love his speech in Nova Prospect, and before you storm the Security Nexus.
2. G-Man - a very weird voice in a pretty unusual way. I love his messed up speed of speech and intonation, a very alien feel.
3. Alyx - one of the most beautiful female voices I've heard. Beautiful, well-acted, strong when needed.
4. Kleiner - don't get to hear too much of him, but the voice acting does the amazing effect of showing Kleiner well as a "big kid", a nerdy scientist who doesn't seem so much concerned with the situation in City 17, as he is excited about his science.
5. City 17 announcer - just reminds me of the Soviet propaganda voices for some reason. Does a great job at portraying how bad the Combine opression is.

Barney's "And if you see Dr. Breen, tell him I said fu*k you" line is great :).
 
1: Dr Breen.
The best voice acting i've heard in a computer game. Extremely well executed, perfect for the character... lots of subtleties in his tone... brilliant.

2: G-Man
Some moments of his speech are sickening... Excellent.

3: Overwatch
Such a great cold tone to her voice. Ever present... and watching... over... :naughty:

4: (seriously) Zombies
Sickening... Muffled vocal tones, screams... broken words... The burning was extra special.

5: Alyx
Great strong expression, really fleshed out her character well.

Special mention goes to the combine voice set. Low distorted mean sounding bitches that they are!
The combination of their voices and their crunching footsteps could cause much fear!

The "I didn't see you get on the train" guy at the very beginning. I know it's all the same guy but that is the first voice you hear other than G-man's and it is so impressive. Also the guy who is sitting at the table and knocks the Chinese on the floor.
The "Pick up that can" CP. Another beautiful line in the opening section of the game.
 
Gordon :) Everyone else is inferior to his voice - to my voice.

I don't know who I'd pick seriously, I love all of their voices, especially Vorts, Breen, Alyx, G-Man, Kleiner, Overwatch Lady..ish. I just love em all.
 
In no real particular order: (except for Breen... just... awesome)

1. Breen (especially the end... WOW! Breen up close and personal... awesome)

2. Kleiner (When you first see him in the lab and he's looking for Heddy... heh ;) )

3. Alyx

4. Civilians

5. A toss up between the Vortigaunt and Barney

I didn't vote Breen top because he's so "stoopid".

I mean, his take on the gravity gun: "Oh, what is this? Ohh, put it over there!"

'Nuff said.
 
We're not voting on their intelligence but their voice acting... sheesh. :rolleyes:
 
1) Gordon Freeman (he has the voice of an angel)
2) G-Man (he is the the voice of the devil???)
3) Overwatch Lady(although the Black Mesa Lady was 100 times better)
4) Headcrab-Humanoids (AKA ZOMBIES)
5) Dr. Breen (I would have put Voltergaunts but again HL1 voltigaunts were way better)

I realise it's the same guy who recorded both G-Man's and Barney's voices, but he just sounds better as the G-Man...
 
The only HL2 voice that I ever actually noticed as being really well done, and well chosen, was Barney's voice. I notice, because it's loaded with an unreplacable sense of character that *could not* be done better.

The other characters can easily be re-voiced with similar results, but Barney's voice was chosen too perfectly.

Mm whats that got to do with the voice actor? Is he "stoopid" in every line, do we compare his character and voice actor to a single line? :p

TBH, I think that Mike Shapiro overacts Barney. Doesn't always sound particuarly genuine to me (he sounds better in Half-Life 1, but not the expansions). Not a slur on Mike's skills as such, because the G-Man is absolutely brilliant.
 
I knew that Michael Shapiro was the voice of G-Man and Barney, even though I was totally surprised at that fact. I mean, with just those two voices he shows his acting ability well: the fact that Barney is so warm and friendly, and the G-Man so alien and chilling. Wonderful.
 
Why?

On second thought, it could be that the voice was chosen because it sounds like just the voice a Big Brother-type entity would use to subjugate the population and make them buy Valve games, among other things.

1.G-man!!!! I will never forget his voice, and i hate every time he speaks...not because of his voice, but because of his messages...

2.Gordon. He doesn't say anything, and that is always the best.

3. Dr. Breen. Well done, very fitting.

4.Barney. He was awesome..."Watch out for those head humpers", oh and the joke about the cat...i want to know more about that.

5.And Alex. She is just next in line.
 
1. G-Man. Awesome freaky bureocratic type of voice, if you know what I mean.
2. Alyx. Beautiful voice, and great acting in all places EXCEPT the "Yes!" in one place of the ending sequence.
3. Zombies. Really gives a picture of a tormented person.
4. Overwatch lady. She's everywhere, knows everything, and is just elite.
5. Combine soldiers and police. Love the background noise and the cryptic messages they give eachother, you get the impression of a well-organized tactical squads. Which they are.

I dont get it with Breen, he was ofcourse nice, but I am f*cking angry about the "mad laughter" when your at his office. Breen is not mad, he's just hungry for power and maybe a little stressed about being crushed by the Combine. Ofcourse this madness couldve been decided by Laidlaw, but anyway it was a big huge minus for Half-Life 2. Why does the Bad Guy always have to be a nutcase?

System Shock 2's Hybrids are better IMO (SiLeNcE THE DisCHoRD!), but these lumbering barrel throwers do indeed deserve recognition.
 
The zombies freaked me out. In Doom 3, they just make grunting noises and seemed to enjoy their fate, but in HL2 they were in absolute despair and pleading to be killed.

Oh, and isn't it obvious about the cat? Kleiner put his pet cat into the teleporter, it ended up mulched on the other side and so he got a pet headcrab instead and hushed up the cat's demise... except to Barney, who was probably a witness and sick all over the place.
 
Upon seeing Breen's face, I immediately expected him to talk like Sean Connery
