Anyone else feel like they were playing a different game when you were in Ravenholm. It felt wrong story wise. It was like changing the channel from Die Hard, to Dawn of the Dead, and then back again. I know the zombies are carry over from HL1 but it was just such a drastic change in the flow of the game. I dunno. Just my opinion for now but does anyone else share it?

Persoanlly - I liked it. There was more panic at my keyboard in that section as there never was through the entirity of Doom 3 :)

It was a nice twist outside the HL1 experience.

*Possible Spoliers*

Nope, I don't...

There was a reason for it happening..the combine? shelling the town and the residents turning into headcrabs :) It used to be a resistence town? Alex said we dont go there any more? Maybe it was a little overdone with the spooky dark ally ways and stuff, but a town without power at night is dark :p

I can see your point mate, but I will have to disagree with you on that one.

Valve definitely got the atmosphere they were looking for in Ravenholm...it was a decidedly creepy place. However, I have to agree that it didn't feel like a very good fit in HL2.

Xen was full of really annoying and tedious jumping puzzles that really broke the flow of the game. Ravenholm wasn't.

lies took me bloody ages to workout about those boxes..but then again I am retarded :dork:

I didn't like Ravenholm nor Xen, soyeah, they were pretty alike.

I effing loved ravenholm! :D

I just beat it infact, and am upto the buggy section, and it was probably the best section so far

Ravenholm is the kind of level i always hate, and yet I loved Ravenholm. And father Gregori.
Xen was just annyoing. And when will people stop saying Zen?

This Is Freaking Me Out, Everybody Its Xen Not Zen!!!!!

xen sucked balls, cos it involved too much timed jumping. ravenholm was nice, but it was FAR too short, and where the heck was the bit from the e3 movies?? i was really anticipating being able to use the traps on the combine AS WELL as the zombies. :( i prefer fighting the combine because they involve more thinking than the zombies. (fast zombies just require good reactions to fight)

Leave the zombies alone you bad person. They're just trying to stay alive, thats all and you go killing them.

Didn't anyone get my joke?

What's wrong with Zen?

I thought Xen was quite nice. I liked the jumping puzzles.

As in terms of that it was so different from the rest, no Ravenholm wasn't Xen, it fitted the story. But the Citadel levels really are like Xen a bit, so different from the rest of the game. Like when you become
some sort of god with the blue manipulator
which was really different from the rest.

In terms of quality (Xen was the weakest part of HL) Ravenholm wasn't either. The weakest part of the game is imo the Coastline, not that it wasn't fcking brilliant like the rest, only less.

It seems though that Ravenholm has losely based into the storyline and was put into the game so you could play with the manipulator and practisse with it. I liked some parts, with the zombies that you could easily chop to bits and so on but towards the end it turned into a drag.

Anyways you get the shotgun. Where would you be without the shotgun? everybody loves the shotgun! !

So far, Ravenholm is the greatest part of the game. :naughty:

How can ravenholm be such a departure from the HL2 atmosphere. My gosh it's an alien infestation no doubt. The headcrabs taking over like invasion of the body snatchers. I'm liking it so far. Haven't finished it yet becasue i'm stuck. I don't remember where but it was after gregory gave me the shotgun and taking on the howlers. By far the best and creepiest part of the game so far. I'm probably not even 1/4 of the way through the game right now and it's taking me quite some time.

Doom 3 has nothing on Hl2 Ravenholm is by far scarier than the entirety of doom 3 and that's saying alot for one level/chapter in the game.

the weakest part in HL1 was xen, in HL2 it was the citadel... boring, repetetive and very different from the rest of the game... i hope valve does it right in HL3

I have to agree... The citadel was so unsatisfying. You didn't have to work for anything at all.

Meh, I couldn't care if the citadel lacked challenge. It was more fun and satisfying than most game endings. That, in itself, was the reward IMO.

:| Ravenholm didn't feel make me feel as if it was astraying from the main plot anyhow. It was just an alternate route to get to Nova Prospekt, because your other one was blocked off.

Agreed. Ravenholm fit perfectly. The Combine found out about the town a long time ago and shelled it with parasite rockets to shut the town down. Hence, the numerous zombies and run-down town scene. Ravenholm worked and made me waste a few dollars on clean underwear. Great job Valve! :E

The only part I really hated about ravenholm was
the cave of poisonous headcrabs.

(SOME SPOILERS HERE, all ABOUT RAVENHOLM and BLACK MESA EAST)

Really liked Ravenholm because of style, and yes, parts of the story. This part makes you hate all this Kombine (yes, Kombine :) ) guys even more. First their attack breaks your date with Alyx (come on, playing ball with Dog was fun ;) ) and they deprive you of her, and then you see this atrocity - little town bombarded with headcrab shells... I HATES THESE GUYS!!!!!!

And for Father Grigorii - yes, Grigorii :) - the coolest NPChar ever, I believe! Grigorii is the man!!! Way to go, Grisha! On the same scale as Otis from Opposing Force :) :) :) and Gunther and Tracer Tong from Deus Ex... ;) Can't remember other cool NPC's but there are some I really "respect" so Father Grigorii is one of them.

I liked Ravenholm, sort of.

My favorite part was shooting off a fast zombie's head in mid-air with the shotgun..man that was fun!

But...I think I know what you mean though, it certainly was different, but still, really fun :)

Playing through Ravenholm was really fun.
Father Gregori is a little weird though.

Ravenholm was probably my favorite chapter of hl2. It might be because i'm a big fan of horror movies. :naughty:

Ravenholm was my favorite part of HL2. Too bad there were no Gonomes tho ;( . I was looking forward to seeing some of em in source. Or the headcrabbed vorts that we were told would be in the game.

Grigory pwned.
The last time you see him is just frickin' awesome as he showed some serious ownage with that shotty.

Was it just me. Or did Grigory end up
making his last stand right smack dab in the middle of a huge inferno facing zombies and certain death?

Maybe it was just the physics and/or an AI error in my particular game but to me Gregory was pretty much a dead man.

Gregori is too ****ing crazy to die.

He will return in HL3. Mark my words.

Personally I felt the airboat levels were more out of place than Ravenholm... Atleast in Ravenholm you were surrounded by things that have always existed in Half-Life... In the airboat level you turned into James Bond!!!

That being said, I can't complain. I don't mind the various changes of pace, and I didn't enjoy the mines at all, they were really short and so it didn't matter overall.

Ravenholm was great, and yes it did have a reason for being like that, as someone said , the shelling od headcrabs.

I luv the traps in Ravenholm, the gas ad the fire, the electricity.

If any level felt uot of place it was Dark Energy, yes it had a feel of HL1 to it. But i felt like i wos in star wars, i was waiting for chewey to come back me up or Hans Solo....
