Why? Seems perfectly reasonable too me.

Maybe it's just cos it's yahtzee?

I think he had some good points but I still don't let it get to me I love metal gear solid 4. I've always loved metal gear ever since i first played the first one when it first came out. I still think the 4th is best for story and 1st is overall best but regardless yahtzee has a good point but i don't let it get to me jeese.

Hilarious. While the game is great, and the cutscenes are pretty awesome, he's right about the dialog, it's about as unshaven as a bears nadgers.

Heh this review lacked funny and had more rage.

Rage != funny.

I mostly disagree with this review, particularly about the gameplay. He's just wrong. It is definitely primarily based on stealth but with a new addition, battlefield stealth. Basically you can blend in with one side or the other and fight with them to move the front line forward, helping you complete your mission without drawing unwanted attention to yourself. I wouldn't call this "action" in the normal sense, as it's based in tactics and is generally only done briefly in between sneaking around.

Tranquilizing and just starting gunfights only works on normal and below. It's far easier to play the game stealthily on the harder difficulty settings than shoot things up, and the game feels far more balanced because of it. I can't stress just how ****ing far he missed the mark on the gameplay ... it's absolutely incredible.

With the storyline he has a few points. I have to say that the first part of the game was structured and paced very well, and the writing wasn't even too bad. Towards the end it started to trail off into typical MGS territory and his points gained a bit of credence, but he still way overplayed how complicated the story was.

Overall it was a lackluster review both in terms of content and humor - though he did raise valid points in terms of the writing.

"Oh christ this shit is bananas!"

I've only played a small portion of MGS on the Playstation and don't exactly have the facilities for MGS4 (unless a broken 360 counts) so feh to the overall reaction to the video.

Still found it funny.

Some funny moments (everyone knows that the story in a MGS game is going to be absurd, but we play it anyway because the overall game is just so much better than so much out there) but not his best and not without problems.

I agree with the people who are disagreeing with him on gameplay--it is a perfect balance of action and stealth with loads of other tricks thrown in. The cutscenes are quite a bit longer than I expected, but then agaoin, I sat through one last night for roughly 25 minutes before I realized how long it had been since I actually played.

That said, this is a game that every PS3 owner should get as it really is one of the best if not THE best game available currently. Games this complex almost never have this much polish. MGS 4 is simply one of the best gaming experiences I have ever had.

Oh god it's so true *salutes*

It actually makes me like my..i mean my brother's ps3 a bit ;(

Which isn't difficult when somebody agrees with you :dozey:

He didn't really "agree" just gave a reason for his thoughts, while others just say something like "this shit sucked"

That was the 1 funny line of the review. Other reviews I'm laughing and enjoying every bit. All I'm saying is that he didn't make this one funny, it was just bad. Before his points would ether be wrong on purpose and funny or exaggerated with cool dialog. This time it was like straight out wrong and not funny.

Fanboy.

Just to throw in a random comment, am I the only one that found the original two Splinter Cells to have far more stealth-oriented gameplay than the recent MGSes..?

Definitely, but thats just due to different game designs. Splinter Cell's entire focus is on not being detected at all.

MGS has always been stealth-lite, it's never been a real sneaker focusing on realism and avoiding detection. It gives you tons and tons of breathing room so you can live long enough to hear 2 hours of rambling on the codec.

No, I don't hate the MGS series.

I like MGS and I liked the video.

Some people need to learn that Yahtzee's videos are for entertainment purposes only, not for a legit review.

No they have always been legit review in the same vein of charlie brroker reviews things for tv. They're still true reviews which reflect his opinion.

And remember; It's an OPINION. You might like it, even if he didn't.
I HATED Kingdom Hearts, I really don't see what you guys find so awesome about it.

I don't think i would like kingdom hearts just cos like yahtzee i don't like jrpgs or in fact most rpgs for me personally.

Kingdom Hearts is far from a standard JRPG. It's actually plays more like Zelda.

And I don't like Zelda either. So it all works out.

I love these reviews, he manages to hit the nail right on the head as far as what I think of games goes.

Depends entirely on your playstyle and difficulty. Anything on hard or above means doing anything but being sneaky will result in a fairly quick death. I remember on MGS3: Subsistence, they even had Euro Extreme which means you automatically lose if you're spotted. The beauty of the games is that they allow you to choose on how you want to play it, whether it's action (on lower difficulties) or stealth. Splinter Cell on the other hand, basically forces you to do stealth since combat really isn't an effective option.
