Zero Punctuation: Tomb Raider Underworld

I really disagree with this review, found the game to be quite good.

After having played Uncharted, Tomb Raider has a lot of catching up to do for me to consider it a good game. It's just so buggy and unpolished.

Not played Uncharted so I don't have the "living up to" thing going on.

Also played right through and never experienced a single bug.

I guess I should say bugs, but the collision and camera in this game are downright horrible.

I've not had any issues with the collisions in the game and have not encountered a single bug. The camera is quite poor but it doesn't make the game unplayable. I haven't played uncharted so i haven't a clue about it but i do like the Tomb Raider games and underworld is trying to improve. How can he criticise a story just because he didn't play Legend which the story continues from. That like playing HL2:EP2 without playing any of the previous ones and complaining the story sucks cause you haven't a clue what's going on.

Exactly!

Well, episodes are... episodes. They are inherently incomplete parts that make up a whole. When transitioning to a new standalone title, I would think it prudent to adequately inform the player of previous happenings.

But I haven't played the game, so I can't personally judge Underworld.

It has a previously trailer that condenses it all, but the new games are all sequels to the original TR, so it stands to reason that you should know what went down the other games.

Ehhhhhhhhhhh... If the storyline can't stand on its own as well...

Still, I don't like Lara Croft games anyway, so it's all bollocks to me. Yahtzee's review was good for a laugh though.

This is my favourite Yahtzee so far. Maybe I am just in a really good mood but I laughed nearly solidly from start to end.

Haha, that was actually genuinely funny for a change. The last few reviews haven't generated as much lols as this one did. I wholeheartedly agree with Yahtzee about Lara being totally unsympathetic as a character.

Lara Croft games have been lost on me ever since i played on on the original Playstation and got really frustrated with the 3D platforming, and not having anything to shoot even though i had guns.

Yup, it was a funny one. Admittedly, nothing could ever match the comic brilliance of "Dog Dungeon", but I still laughed a lot. I think he's been building up surplus spleen, against this franchise in particular, for a while now.

And I agree with him that, as game protagonists go, Lara Croft is an a$$hole.

Seriously? I didn't crack a smile to be honest...what's wrong with me? :O
Same here. :(

I think I've gone off ZP a bit. It's getting harder to laugh along with them now when I can't shake the feeling that he just hates on things because he's paid to. He takes so many more cheap shots now, and some of the criticisms he hands out make it seem like he's really reaching for reasons to diss things for laughs.

"It's the same! Jumping puzzles! Camera! Tits!" Hey, why does this sound familiar?

Oh yeah.

Yeah because he found the same faults with a game in the franchise he criticises for being formulaic and unchanging among other things. Odd that.

So why review it again? He said himself in the game of the year one, there are tons of games from '08 he has yet to review. Granted TR was one of them, but he even said something to the effect of, "any one of these games could surprise me and trump Saint's Row 2 (lol) as my game of the year... except Tomb Raider obviously."

Well, I guess if nothing else it's an easy target. I can't wait until he starts reviewing the Deer Hunter franchise.

He doesn't pick the games he reviews.
Ah, see that's probably why I was getting that vibe from him. I guess it's fair enough if he wants to hate games he's forced to play. I still find him funny fairly often, it's just a lot more hit-and-miss than usual lately and some of his trademark similes seem a little forced. Can't really blame him though I guess, for a series that's gone on consistently for this long.

I totally agree about the similes. They really felt a bit forced in the last few reviews before this one. But here he managed to get them spot on again, as in they were 1) really fitting and 2) lollerskates funny. I kinda admire him for still being able to come up with good ones every now and then even after 60+ reviews or how many has he done now anyway.
