Valve often use code names for files. For example, the Hunter was called "Mini Strider" in the SDK.

They always leaves bits of unfinished work in, you can injure the advisors in Episode 2 with noclip and spawn the "mini striders" in Episode 1 which fire ar2 like pulse rounds rather than the flechettes if I recall, plus loads of other little things, like "Borealis" in the HL2 files. Strange in the alien swarm though.

Yes, but that was scripted, you can however spawn them as a regular enemies, they are more brown in appearance, have no aerial and fire pulse rounds rather than flechettes. But like I said, the A.I was never used in Episode 1 and was basically early code for Episode 2.

This suggests Ep3 will use a 'blob' enemy. The 'brain' part is one of several functions: shake, fire, brain, spit, swarm. Indicating some of its possible behaviors.

Plus I don't see how this is not a big deal. It is the first thing about episode 3 in years that valve has intentionally put out there. They put it there for people to find it.
