    If I were Gabe...

I agree with what you say there, 100%. That is the problem, IMHO. With no new MP there is not a starting point for MODs to work from. MODs can re-skin and re-model to change a MP but no MOD as ever completely invented or reinvented a MP. CS sorta did but only in the rounds mode - the rest is...

    If I were Gabe...

I seriously doubt that for two reasons: One - if CS:S is the same as CS then there is no reason to go to CS:S (just takes more money and runs slower which is bad for competiton). The hardcore CS people will remain with old CS. Two - given the above the only way CS:S can really thrive is if it...

    If I were Gabe...

Come on, there is no way you can objectively say that CS:S is a Source game - it is clearly just a ported Quake MOD and a sloppilly ported one at that. Look the the various game elements, all are straight from the Quake 2 engine that CS was MADE FOR. It isn't a game that was made to run on...

    What CSS lacks

Games allways alter the reload animation and the shell ejection in favor of what they think 'looks' better. FOr instance, if the shells ejected on the correct side it would make for a more bland gun model, so they flip it to give the model a more interesting look while in use.

TF2 is going to be a seperate retail title, or so that is what Valve has said to date at least. CS:S per Valve is the MP for HL2, the fact that it is buggy, sloppy, and doesn't even utilize the Source engine fully is perfectly good reason to be miffed. If when HL2 comes out the same can be...

    Quick CS: Source Tweak

I have 1 gig of RAm and tried this setting the heapsize to 512 of my RAM. I have everything on high, 1280x960 resolution, AA on 6X, and AF on 6X. Stress Test FPS before - 146.1; 143.2; 145.5 Stress Test FPS after - 145.2; 145.8; 146.4 So I am thinking this is a placebo effect as the...

    What CSS lacks

Again - that is the VERY source of the problem. Valve simply did not deliver a Source MP and that is answer to the original post's statement, "What CSS lacks". Answer - a true new game made for the engine it runs on.

    If I were Gabe...

Typical CS logic (or lack thereof). THEN PLAY THE SAME GAME, CS 1.6. If it is perfect, if you have so little skill that you cannot adapt to a new video game with differances then PLAY THE SAME GAME, CS 1.6. Now that is simply nonsensical. Valve intentionally made the physics crappy and...

    What CSS lacks

CS:S is HL2 multiplayer - we payed for it the same as we payed for the single player. Only partly, everything that moves now has to be tracked - the reason they don't let you interact with things on anything but a superficial level is that if you could move things as part of gameplay...

    What CSS lacks

I think you are correct - Source has some serious netcode issues (esp since it supports 56k still) and the physics dumbing down is definitely a nod to that. All the more support to what I said about CS:S needing to be a NEW game and not just a lame port of a Quake 2 MOD. As for time - give...

    What CSS lacks

The problem with CS:S is that it is not a Source game it is Quake 2 DM with Source graphics. People have CS 1.6 and CZ if they want that old style gameplay - the point of a new engine is to get a new game, to advance the gameplay and introdcue new things - CS:S is just a lame rehash of what...

    If I were Gabe...

Well, as I mentioned I think the liklihood of MODs being of any quality are slim given that Valve couldn't even create a true Source multiplayer. I mean if Valve couldn't make the physics work without this goofy force field thing then are we to believe some MOD people can? Same with the...

    I can't take it anymore...

Give me a break, CS:S is a retail product and if Valve is just running some test of Steam then, again, they ripped us off. Why is it so hard for CS people to hold Valve to account as they ould any other game company if they sold the same thing over and over and over or if they sold something...

    If I were Gabe...

I don't know how you can say that - in the world of CS the whether you can pick up a dead guys grenade or not is considered a major change/update and takes 3 years to implement so I wouldn't be holding my breath for CS:S to be anything more than it is right now, save a few more player models to...

    If I were Gabe...

Agree with ideas 1, 2, and 3 or not wouldn't you agree that something other than Quake 2 style CS is beyond due? I mean in 5 years games have evolved in so many differant directions - even the Quake/CS style stuff. Just porting over the 'gameplay' to the new engine is stupid and shortchanging...

    Awesome smoke grenade trick

No offense to the original poster but ONLY in CS land is a sloppy bug like this interpreted into something as ridiculous as realistic physics built into the trigger mechanism. ROFL.

    I can't take it anymore...

Sure - you can mess with the settings but there is a system through the game GUI to do it and unless you have some kind of serious trouble you don't need to go into the config. Besides that comparing Source MP to Doom 3 MP kinda proves my point. I doubt we get one, they just wanted to scam...

    If I were Gabe...

I promise you one thing; if I were and you owned CS, CZ, and CS:S - you would have three differant games instead of three boxes with the same game with differant graphics.
