Our eyes register something around 60 images/second. If it's under 90 fps your eyes will be pretty tired anyway after a while, though.

This probably is troublesome to fix; in HL2 singleplayer, there is only one master. VALVe probably didn't go through the mess of making the antlions controllable by different players at different times.
