Blair: Companies are on this planet to make money, they couldnt care less about hurting their competition. Not only that the games industry is similar to the movie industry... you dont sign up to a movie like you do with AT&T... if there is a good movie, you watch it, if there are 2 good movies...
Someone mentionned that combines are used to harvest crops. Thats true, and seeing as how that black wall is 'eating' city-17 up its not impossible that they are 'harvesters' of different systems. Maybe there was a second black mesa and another world was unlocked.
Could we get some figures on some of the models present in the game. Take for instance the strider... how many polies, size of texture map, size of normal map, how many shaders and how many shader instructions per shader. Just to get an idea of what exactly we can put on an object without having...
Hey Will, your engine looks pro, i've been programming DX for almost a year now and as of yet havent found the time or the motivation to finish the engine I have in the works. I see yours look very good so im wondering, could you anwser a few questions for me?
How did you program the vertex...
God made us to be free therefor god doesnt give a shit if somebody is gay or not, he just wants said person to be happy. That also means you shouldnt discriminate againsts gays (no im not gay) because they're normal people same as you and their sexual preference is their own.
Well thats one thing we cant argue, when carmack programs something it goes everywhere and not just on those special see-it-once moments in the singleplayer. Dynamic lights and bump mapping come to mind. I think the Doom 3 engine will be very good, I guess it really depends on what you intend to...
Well I dont usualy post in these threads, but its late and I feel stupid, here goes my reputation.
First and foremost I will say that iD usualy makes 'tech-demo' games. None of their games particularly stand out as being very outstanding and they all follow an undead, rusty, bloody place...
Yet another boring mod doomed to failure. Im sorry I have to put it so harsly but there is no one person out there that will take orders from you and make a mod for you unless you wack out the wallot. Not only that, but your mod is unoriginal, plain and a rehash of every mod that has ever failed...
If you wanted a totally realistic damage model I say do away with the health bar and even hit points. Your health should be represented by how tired you are, how blurred and dark your vision is etc... I think a total realism mod would be a good experiment.
Theres already a stack class in the STL (Standard Template Library). For those who dont know a template allows you to set any datatype to your class so you can have it as int, char, long or even some class. A very useful library, so yeah if I was writing this class I would use a template on it.
you gotta change 'array' to 'an_array' since the array variable never gets declared and your either missing a library or an include for the cout thing, thats a basic C function which I dunno what the include is by heart. Look it up, should take about 30 seconds to find
PHP aint that great for classes, or maybe its just cuz I havent done anything worthy of classes with it yet. Im all for OOP though, procedural can be fun sometimes, for simple apps
HL wasnt really scary but you got some bad vibes from it (by bad I mean good). If you play it in a quiet room you really feel like your alone and the world outside could bite you, and when your in those dark ventilation tunnels you get scared shitless when a headcrab comes outa nowhere. Its just...
C++ is a much more widespread language and its fast. Most higher level languages like C# and Java are slightly slower. C# still packs a punch though, and its getting faster and faster, + it has DX support. Modern languages like C# have Java have 1 thing over C++ though, and thats the much more...
its still a waste of polygons. If you wanna have a displaceable surface you have to make a grid of polygons where usualy 2 would suffice. Then you have the fact that the grenade could blow up ANYWHERE. Basicly its a totally useless waste of power for a little 1m by 1m crater that a frag grenade...
You my friend, are ignorant. Just because Gabe said all surfaces CAN have a displacement map doesnt mean every single explosion is gonna displace a surface. It would not only be a waste of processing power, it would multiply the ammount of polygons in the surface by atleast 100x to get a smooth...
When you open a project with source control it will tell you it couldnt find the database because you arent on valves network, so you have to disconnect the project to work offline but this makes the code read-only unless you lock it for editing offline, which is a pain.
